Summer Rising 2022 is a partnership between New York City’s Department of Education and the Department of Youth and Community Development offering free summer programming for students in Kindergarten to 8th Grade. The Summer Rising Enrollment Portal will open on April 25 and close on May 22, 2022. Families are encouraged to apply early to secure a spot at their preferred location. The application process this year is first come, first serve and children no matter where they go to school (public, Charter or private) can apply for one of the seats offered in the program from early July to mid August. You can only sign up for the full length of the program and not on a weekly basis.
Students in grades K-8 will have access to both academics and enrichment programming over the course of the day, including field trips, arts activities, and outdoor recreation. Programs will be full-day, in-person, and planned and operated collaboratively by school principals and community-based organizations. Breakfast and lunch will be served. A typical day for students in grades K-8 will include a mix of academic support, social emotional learning, and enrichment activities. Academics will be provided by licensed teachers in the morning and enrichment will be led by community-based organization staff.
Dates and hours for Elementary School aged children (K-5) from July 5 to August 19, Monday to Friday 8am to 3pm, followed by extended day enrichment until 6pm.
Dates and hours for Middle School aged children (6-8) are from July 5 to August 12
from Monday to Friday, 8am to 3pm, followed by extended day enrichment until 6pm.
Locations in our neighborhoods (your child does not need to attend the schools listed to apply for Summer Rising). You will be able to confirm your spot immediately upon completing the enrollment process. When a program is full, it will no longer display in the application. This means there is no need for a waitlist or for families to rank options.
