DUMBO infrastructure news – pickleball, construction and traffic study

NYC Department of Parks has chosen a proposal for the Anchorage Plaza site between DUMBO, Brooklyn Heights and Downtown Brooklyn. The winning concept includes 12 pickle ball fields, dog run, ping pong, chess, bike racks, shaded seating, two food trucks and more amenities. The site has been closed to the public for over 10 years and has been used as a parking lot and storage lot for the Department of Transportation.

CityPickle who runs courts in Central Park and Industry City has won the 3-year long concession deal and plans to offer fee-based pickleball programming at Anchorage Plaza. One hour court rentals are $80+ at their Central Park location.

In DUMBO they plan to offer court rentals for clinics, leagues and open play, dedicated hours for youth programming and seniors, dedicated court hours for nonprofit programming per month and daily low-cost community play. Timeline for the reopening is spring 2025.

The part of the lot on the Washington Street side will be used for pickle ball while the other amenities including dog run and open space are situated on the Old Fulton Street side.
