GHS Families Take Part in November Math Morning
In November at Greene Hill School (GHS), families were invited to Math Morning, an interactive session that highlighted our constructivist approach to learning and teaching mathematics. Generally, people construct their own knowledge by building on prior experiences, and at Greene Hill, we engage in authentic and purposeful tasks to deepen mathematical understandings and abilities for all students. During Math Morning students showcased to families the tools and strategies they utilize to create number stories, model representations of math thinking, and use data to answer big questions. At GHS, we foster a growth mindset in the classroom by providing students with explicit mindset messaging that everyone can learn math. We do this by making sure all students are supported and challenged, giving them formative assessments with diagnostic feedback, and encouraging them to embrace mistakes and value depth over speed.
