Halloween Guide 2021 (all events are free)

Our annual Halloween Guide for families in Brooklyn Heights, DUMBO, Downtown Brooklyn, Fort Greene, Park Slope and BoCoCa features free and spooky events in Brooklyn. The Halloween Guide 2021 is sponsored by Blue School. Nestled in the South Street Seaport, Blue School reimagines education, offering challenging academics and joyful learning in a nurturing community. Their dynamic, whole child approach empowers students from age 2 to grade 8 to be engaged, challenged, and celebrated for who they are.

Movies under the Stars, Shocktoberfest | Carroll Park | 10/8

In a monster-infested world, Joel learns his girlfriend is just 80 miles away. To make the dangerous journey, Joel discovers his inner hero to be with the girl of his dreams. Rated PG-13. This free movie screening takes place on 10/8 at 6.30 pm in Carroll Park. Find out more here.

Poplar Street Community Garden PUMPKIN PARTY | Brooklyn Heights | 10/16

Come on by to enjoy carving a pumpkin or painting a pumpkin for taking home! Join in as we plant a new apple tree and some pollinator plants and harvest the Garden’s herbs! Donations are requested. Children of all ages are welcome. Due to social distancing in limited space, an RSVP is advised. Email your name, number of people, and intended entry time (on the hour or half-hour) to [email protected]. Saturday October16  from 12 to 3 pm at Poplar Street Community Garden in Brooklyn Heights.

Mini Monster Mash | Cobble Hill | 10/16

Families First will be hosting a “Mini Monster Mash” in Cobble Hill Park on Saturday 10/16 from 10 am to 1 pm. There will be games, arts & crafts, tattoos and more at this free event.

Harvest Festival | Brooklyn Bridge Park | 10/23

Join us this fall as we celebrate the changing of the seasons at the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy’s annual Harvest Festival! Don’t miss our kick-off procession, arts and crafts, storytelling, lawn games and more—including our signature pumpkin patch. The free event will take place at Pier 6 on Saturday, October 23 from 11 am to 3 pm.

Pumpkin Patch | Williamsburg | 10/17 & 10/24

Bring the whole family to Vale Park to pick your own pumpkins and get into the fall spirit. The William Vale transforms Vale Park into a family-friendly pumpkin patch for two October Sundays 10/17 and 10/24 from 11.30 am to 3 pm. Pluck your perfect pumpkin from the patch, then hit the craft tables to transform it into a table-worthy decoration. Scarecrow-making and seasonal drinks for sipping add to the fun. Purchase pumpkins in a variety of sizes to take home. Find out more here.

Court Street Spectacular | Brooklyn Heights | 10/24

Court Street Spectacular Street Fair between Atlantic Avenue and Joralemon Street will take place on Sunday, 10/24 from 11 am to 6 pm. Enjoy Brooklyn’s last big street festival of the year!  There will be amusement rides by Joralemon street to Livingston street.

Pumpkin Point | Governors Island | 10/23 – 10/31

Tens of thousands of pumpkins will populate historic Nolan Park during the final two weeks of October. Stroll through the expansive pumpkin patch and pick out a pumpkin to take home in an exchange for a small donation. There will also be autumn-inspired arts and crafts, storytelling, live music and more. October 23/24 as well as 30/31 from 10 am to 6 pm on Governors Island. Find out more here.

Cobble Hill Halloween Window Painting | Court Street | 10/30

The Cobble Hill Halloween Window Painting Day is an event where more than 75 children from the community can register to create a Halloween-themed painting on a reserved and designated 3×2’ retail window space. This outdoor event has become a favorite in the community and the Cobble Hill Association is thrilled to host it again, providing kids with a safe and spirited way to celebrate Halloween. This event is open to children in grades 1-8 living in the neighborhood between and including Atlantic Avenue to Union Street, Smith Street to Columbia Street. Kids can register as an individual or team of 2, and registration is on a first-come basis. The event will take place on October 30th from 8.30 am to 12 pm. Rain date is 10/31. Register here.

Carroll Park Halloween Party | Carroll Gardens  | 10/30

The annual Carroll Park Halloween Party will take place on Saturday 10/30 from 11.30 am to 1 pm with crafts, games and food. Check back in Saturday morning when the time will make the decision to keep Saturday or move the event to Sunday 10/31 due to forecasted rain.

BKLYN BOO! | Albee Square | 11/06

Downtown Brooklyn’s band for this occasion, the BOOgie Wonderland Wonders play Earth Wind Fire covers amongst other 70s Boogie hits. Come dance! DJ Boogie Blind is one of the most trusted and respected DJ’s in the industry. Founder of one of the greatest turntablist crews of all time, New York’s legends The X-Ecutioners, Boogie has DJed for Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe, Jim Jones, Jean Grae, and Pharoahe Monch. Costume contest! All costumes are invited. If you need inspiration, think “BOOgie” – combine fright with 70s wear. Wander around BOO-tiful Albee Square and take pics with the haunted ambience. The event takes place on Albee Square in Downtown Brooklyn on Saturday 11/06 from 2 to 5 pm.

Halloween Parade | Brooklyn Heights | 10/31

The Brooklyn Heights Association will be hosting its annual Halloween Parade on Sunday, October 31st at 10:30am. Families will all gather at the entrance to the promenade on Clark Street and parade down to the cul-de-sac on Remsen.

Great PUPkin Dog Costume Contest | Fort Greene Park | 10/31

The annual Great PUPkin Dog Costume Contest will take place on Sunday, October 31 from 12 to 2.30 pm in Fort Greene Park. The contest will take place at the bottom of the monument stairs in Fort Greene Park. To register your dog, click here.

Halloween Fest | Fort Greene Park | 10/30

Halloween Fest is back! This year Fort Greene Park is doing a spooky evening lantern walk with a photo booth, costume contest, pumpkin and hay patch and so much more! Due to Covid, they scheduled timed groups for entry. Each slot is 30 minutes and participants are only able to sign up for one slot each. The walks take place on Saturday 10/30 from 4.30 to 7.30 pm. BAMboo! | Downtown Brooklyn | 10/31

BAM’s Halloween block party is back on the streets of Brooklyn! Start your trick-or-treating off right at this free, socially distanced, grab-and-go outdoor festival with pre-packaged goody bags filled with candy, toys, arts and crafts, and more. This family-friendly event, where kids can grab treats from car trunks decorated for the occasion, kicks off at 2pm. All attending family members who are vaccine-eligible (ages 12+) will need to provide proof of vaccination and personal ID. Masks must be worn at all times. 30 Lafayette Ave between Ashland Place and St. Felix Street from 2 to 5 pm on Halloween. Find out more here.

Cobble Hill Halloween Parade | Cobble Hill | 10/31

The annual Cobble Hill Halloween Parade takes place on Halloween (Sunday, October 31st) at 4pm. Organized by the Cobble Hill Association, the parade starts in Cobble Hill Park. Led by a big-brass band (the Brass Queens!), a procession of costumed families will march down Congress to Henry, around to Warren Street and back to the park. Afterwards, kids can stop at stoops for treats in one of the most active Halloween communities in Brooklyn.

Garden Place Trick-or-Treating | Brooklyn Heights | 10/31

Kids start trick-or-treating around 4 pm on Sunday, October 31st on Garden Place in Brooklyn Heights. The gathering runs all afternoon until dusk when everybody runs out of candy.

DUMBOween | DUMBO | 10/31

Annual March to the Arch and Trick-or-Treating in DUMBO hosted by the DUMBO BID on Sunday, 10/31 followed by crafts, live music, Lego playing and candy in the Archway! Find out more here.

Boo!KCM | Park Slope | 10/31

The whole family is invited to the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music (58 Seventh Ave in Park Slope) for Boo!KCM on Sunday, October 31 from 4-6pm. Come enjoy a ghoulish performance, a haunted musical garden and, of course, candy! This is a FREE celebration for the entire community, so be sure to make Boo!KCM a stop on your trick-or-treating route.

Myrtle Avenue Monster Mash Dance Party | 10/31

The Halloween Monster Mash Dance Party returns to the Myrtle Avenue Plaza this Halloween (October 31). There’ll be costumes, music & dancing, giveaways, a selfie station from 4 to 6 pm. Plus a special raffle, halloween hunt and storefront trick or treating all along Myrtle! Masks required.
