Jewish high holiday events for Brooklyn families

From apples and honey to shofar-making workshops to family services, Brooklyn offers a wide variety of ways to celebrate Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. We’ve rounded up kid-friendly events and services from synagogues and community groups across the borough, with dates, times, recommended ages, costs, and RSVP details.

Chabad of DUMBO | DUMBO

Chabad of DUMBO will host High Holiday events and services throughout Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. All events are free; RSVP here for Rosh Hashanah events and RSVP here for Yom Kippur events.

Rosh Hashanah | Tuesday, September 23

Brooklyn Heights Synagogue | Brooklyn Heights

Brooklyn Heights Synagogue will host High Holiday services with childcare, youth programming, teen meet-ups, and a pre-Rosh Hashanah outing for families. Tickets required for services; childcare (ages 2½–Pre-K) requires pre-registration. Tickets for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur (purchased separately) are $250; when purchased for both holidays together, tickets are $250. Special pricing for ages 22-30: $75 for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur (purchased separately), and $175 for both holidays.

Kane Street Synagogue | Cobble Hill

Kane Street Synagogue offers family and youth services for the High Holidays, including their Big Apple Bash in advance of Rosh Hashanah. Members are asked to register in advance, and non-members can purchase tickets here.

Dirah Brooklyn | Carroll Gardens

Dirah will host children’s services for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur at Senesh School (342 Smith St). Kids can enjoy songs, games, crafts, and special entertainment. An unsupervised games room will be available during services. No membership or fees required; free RSVP here. Additionally, Dirah will host a pre-Rosh Hashanah Shofar workshop for teens!

Romemu Brooklyn | Fort Greene

Romemu Brooklyn will host spiritual High Holy Day services at Brooklyn Music School Theater (126 St Felix St). Led by Hazzan Basya Schechter and Rabbi Annie Lewis, services will feature a full band with electrified sound. Along with the main services, there will be kids’ services for both 2-6 and 7-12 years old kids, led by Stav Meishar, as well as educational and experiential themed activities and child supervision. Romemu Brooklyn is a Renewal, Neo-Hasidic, dynamic, inclusive and egalitarian congregation, where all are welcomed. No need to be members in order to join their High Holy Days services. Tickets are $95–$125 per event ($285–$375 bundle); kids $30–$50 per service ($90–$150 bundle).

Join for High Holiday Services with Chabad of Fort Greene and a pre-Rosh Hashanah trip to Urban Farm. Park Slope Jewish Center offers High Holiday programming for all ages, including tot tefillah, teen discussions, and community shofar blowing. Youth and family services are open to members and non-members, with a suggested donation of $36/family.

Pre-Rosh Hashanah Celebration at Prospect Park Carousel | Prospect Park

Join Tkiya and PJ Library for a pre-New Year and school year kickoff celebration at the Prospect Park Carousel! There will be snacks, crafts, music, movement, bubbles, puppets, and and unlimited rides on the carousel.

Rosh Hashanah Family Service at The Moxy Hotel | Williamsburg

Join The Neighborhood, B’nai Brooklyn, and Fig Tree at The Moxy Hotel in Williamsburg, alongside meditation teacher Alison Laichter for a Rosh Hashanah Family Service. Expect kid-friendly meditation, music, storytelling, and spiritual play. Alongside the service, there will be a PJ Library book corner for quiet reading and sensory play. No Hebrew or meditation experience is necessary! Tickets include a pita and falafel lunch with vegan and gluten-free options available (vegetarian, not kosher certified).

Rosh Hashanah Musical Celebration at Brooklyn Bowl | Williamsburg

Tuesday, September 23 | 10am-1pm | All ages | $25-$50 | Tickets here

Celebrate Rosh Hashanah with Rabbi Daniel Brenner, Jeremiah Lockwood, and musicians at Brooklyn Bowl. The family-friendly service with Torah reading, shofar, and procession. Jane Tuv will lead a guided meditation while educator, healer, artist and activist Sarah Chandler will lead a special interactive Shofar experience. The 10am service will be followed by a 12:30pm Blue Ribbon lunch.
