New amenities for families in our neighborhoods May ’25

Exciting new amenities are popping up across our neighborhoods! The new Pier 5 playground in Brooklyn Bridge Park has opened, and Industry City now has debuted a revamped game room. Downtown Brooklyn is getting a new Nike store, plus the recently opened Little Scholars Childcare Center, and two new mental health centers dedicated to children and young adults. A new pickleball club is launching in Red Hook, and an indoor trampoline park has opened its doors in Bay Ridge. Long-awaited repairs are also complete in Brooklyn Heights, including the reinstallation of escalators at the High Street subway station and the reactivation of water sprinklers at Walt Whitman Park near Cadman Plaza.

And more is on the way! Greenpoint will soon be home to The Program NYC, a state-of-the-art youth basketball facility. In DUMBO, a new outdoor pickleball hub will open beneath the Brooklyn Bridge. Plus, a temporary location for the Carroll Gardens Library is opening in July, and new early childhood education centers and schools are planned for Greenpoint, Gowanus, and Sunset Park.

Industry City Game Room | Sunset Park | NOW OPEN

The Frying Pan’s game room at Industry City has recently had a massive makeover, with a fantastic array of brand-new games. Highlights include Space Invaders, an immersive Jurassic Park experience, and a Fast & Furious driving game. Admission is free, and you can load credits onto a card. They also have ping pong and an assortment of games that are free to play, plus a space in the back that is available for birthday parties. The revamped game had their soft launch over Memorial Day weekend. Stop by and check it out! Located in Building 6, and hours are Tuesday through Friday 3-8pm, and weekends 11am-6pm.

New Pier 5 Playground | Brooklyn Bridge Park | NOW OPEN

A renovated playground for ages 2 to 12 has opened at Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 5. The play area has wooden play structures, seating, climbing, and best of all, new structures for shade! Just steps away from an ice cream stand and with fantastic views of the skyline, it’s the perfect place to play this summer!

Nike Store | Downtown Brooklyn | NOW OPEN

A new Nike store is opening at Atlantic Center, located at 625 Atlantic Avenue. The new store will cary athletic wear, sneakers, and performance gear. Visit during their grand opening on Thursday, May 29. There will be a live DJ, exclusive customization, and NY Liberty themed treats. The new flagship will have the newest drops, expert styling help, and Nike’s signature tech.

Little Scholars Childcare Center | New location in Downtown Brooklyn | NOW OPEN

Little Scholars Childcare Center has opened a brand-new location at 345 Adams Street in Downtown Brooklyn! With nurturing Infant Care, engaging Toddler programs, and inspiring Preschool and Extended Care options for children aged 3 months to 5 years, this center is designed to help young minds thrive. The curriculum supports physical, emotional, linguistic, and cognitive development for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Hours are 8am to 6pm. Brightline Pediatric Mental Health Clinic | Downtown Brooklyn | NOW OPEN

Bond Street Youth Mental Health Clinic | Downtown Brooklyn | NOW OPEN

Community Counseling & Mediation (CCM) has opened the Bond Street Clinic in Downtown Brooklyn, the first mental health center in the borough focused on preteens, adolescents, and young adults. The clinic provides personalized, culturally sensitive care for youth ages 10 and up, with treatment plans tailored to each individual and their family. Therapists use a range of approaches based on each patient’s needs, including short-term and long-term psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), psychoeducation, solution-focused therapy, and person-centered therapy. Walt Whitman Pop Up Library | Fort Greene | NOW OPEN

The Brooklyn Public Library has launched a Walt Whitman Pop Up Library at 240 Nassau Street, hosted in a 3,000  square foot space donated by Alloy Development  (240 Nassau Street, home of the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club) while the original branch undergoes renovations. Open Monday through Friday from 10:00am to 1:45pm through June, the pop-up offers books, library card sign-ups, reference help, and a variety of programs; see all upcoming events here.

New Escalators at High Street Subway Station | Brooklyn Heights | NOW OPEN

It was a long three years for Brooklyn Heights residents and commuters, but new escalators have finally been replaced at at the High Street A/C station!

Walt Whitman Park Water Sprinklers | Brooklyn Heights | NOW OPEN 

After being out of service for multiple summers, the water sprinklers at Walt Whitman Park, located across from Cadman Plaza, have been turned back on just in time for summer! The sprinkler system was causing flooding in the basement of the Eastern District Courthouse next door, but repairs are now complete. MoCADA Culture Lab II & Café | L10 Arts and Cultural Center in Downtown Brooklyn | NOW OPEN

The L10 Arts & Cultural Center opened in Downtown Brooklyn in January, but the Museum of Contemporary African Diaspora Arts (MoCADA) is just now opening their Culture Lab II and Café. The Culture Lab will features a new gallery and performance spaces, and will be home to MoCADA Radio, STEAM programs for all ages, and a new Taste of Brooklyn Food Residency series, featuring cuisine of the African Diaspora. McManus Irish Dance | New location in Brooklyn Heights | Pop-Up Classes NOW AVAILABLE

After 12 years in Manhattan and Queens, McManus Irish Dance is bringing its Irish dance programs to Brooklyn Heights. A full term of fall classes will be offered at the Assumption Church Parish Center on Middagh Street, starting on September 9. Classes will take place on Tuesday afternoons, with classes for ages 4-6 and 7+. Plus, McManus will be offering 1-2 free trial/pop-up days leading up to the fall term. Their curriculum includes the Jiggy Tots program, designed for children aged 2–4, which combines dance with educational games to develop motor skills and coordination. For older children and teens, McManus Irish Dance offers classes for both recreational and competitive dancers.

Launch Trampoline Park | New location in Bay Ridge | NOW OPEN

Launch’s newest location in Bay Ridge is finally open! They will be celebrating with a Grand Opening on June 14. The family entertainment center has airtrack basketball, an arcade, battle beam, dodgeball, dunk basketball, an indoor playground, VR experiences, slides, trampoline courts, bouldering walls, and more! Launch is located at 531 86th Street in Bay Ridge. The center also has a restaurant, and offers birthday parties for kids. Open 3-9pm Mondays through Thursdays, 3-10pm on Saturdays, 10am-11pm on Saturdays and 10am-9pm on Sundays. Admission starts at $39.99 for one hour and goes up to $49.99 for two hours. Violet Hour Pilates | Park Slope | NOW OPEN

Bedford Library | Bed-Stuy | NOW REOPENED

The Bedford branch of the Brooklyn Public Library has reopened after a four-year closure for a $2.4 million renovation. Bedford Library, located at 496 Franklin Avenue, has the distinction of being the oldest branch in the system, dating back to 1897. This most recent renovation included a new modern HVAC system, LED lighting, an improved elevator, new floors and windows, plus new shrubs, flowers and fresh grass outside. Gowanus Canal Waterfront Park | Gowanus | NOW OPEN

A new waterfront park has opened along the west side of the Gowanus Canal between Degraw and Union Streets. The public space is part of the Society Brooklyn development, a mixed-use residential complex with two 21-story residential towers at 500 Degraw and 504 Sackett. The esplanade consists 21,000 square feet of green space along the canal. Visitors can enjoy landscaped paths with native plantings, lounge chairs and more seating, plaques with information about the canal’s history, and a children’s play area with padded flooring and climbable oyster sculptures.

Take Me to the Water Swim School | New location in Midwood | NOW OPEN

Take Me to the Water, which has been offering swim classes in NYC since 1984, has expanded their programming to a new pool, located at The East Midwood Jewish Center. The pool is 60 by 20 feet, allowing swimmers of all abilities to learn and train. Classes will be offered throughout the week and on both Saturday and Sundays. Swim lessons are offered for all ages and abilities, including Baby & Me, Group Lessons, Private Swim Lessons, Semi-Private Lessons, and a Swim Team. Red Hook Pickleball Club | Red Hook | NOW OPEN

Red Hook Pickleball Club is set to open its doors on June 1, and will be Red Hook’s first professional indoor pickleball facility. Spanning 18,000 square feet, the club will have five cushioned courts, designed to provide a comfortable and safe playing experience. There is no age restriction on players or members, only that they play in the appropriate skill division. Starting in July, they will be offering kids camps for ages 6-14, with both week-long sessions and multi-week sessions. The club offers various membership options, with benefits such as unlimited open play, guest passes, discounts on court reservations and special events, and more. Non-members can also book courts and participate in open play sessions. During off-peak hours, open play starts at $26/player, and during peak hours (including weekends), the rate increases to $38/player. They will also offer coaching, including one-on-one sessions, clinics, and leagues. The club will offer special events, mixers, and seasonal activations. Hours are Monday through Saturday from 7am to 10pm, and Sunday from 7am to 8pm. 

Space Club Rooftop Bounce Mountain | Fort Greene | NOW OPEN

The newest location of Space Club in Fort Greene has opened their rooftop for the season, with a bounce mountain for kids to enjoy! It’s being soft launched for members only first, and then will become amiable to everyone. Space Club is also opening a third location in Vinegar Hill next, located at 50 Gold Street. Stay tuned!

KinderPrep Montessori’s New Summer Program Enrichment Center | Brooklyn Bridge Park | Opening June 14

KinderPrep Montessori is opening a brand-new 2,500 square foot Summer Program Enrichment Center in Brooklyn Bridge Park for children ages 4 to 7. They will open on Saturday, June 14 and host a special Open House; learn more here! The space features a Dance Studio, Chess Corner, Role Play Area with Playhouses, dedicated space for Music & Sign Language, Spanish Language, Puppetsburg, Science Lab, and Abacus Math. It also includes a presentation area for shows and performances, as well as a dining area. And of course, Brooklyn Bridge Park is their backyard! Club Pilates | New location in Downtown Brooklyn | Opening June 30

A new Club Pilates is coming to 562 State Street in Downtown Brooklyn, with classes starting on June 30 ! Club Pilates specializes in reformer-based group Pilates classes designed for all levels and fitness backgrounds. Classes are complemented by TriggerPoint, TRX®, springboard, EXO-Chair and other equipment designed to build strength, mobility and stability. Club Pilates even offers teen classes for ages 14-19, where young adults will learn to use the Reformer, Springboard, and more. See all class programming here. Temporary Location for Carroll Gardens Library | Carroll Gardens | Opening in July

This July, the Carroll Gardens Library will open a temporary location at 250 Baltic Street, which is currently an office space for Community Board 6. The main branch has been closed since July 2023 for major renovations, with its reopening now delayed until Summer 2026 due to unexpected complications. In response to community frustration, local officials urged BPL President Linda Johnson to find a solution. As a result, the temporary library will open four days a week: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 1-5pm, and Friday from 10am-2pm. (The exact opening date in July has not been announced.) Patrons will be able to browse and borrow books, pick up holds, register for library cards, and get help from librarians. On Wednesdays, staff will offer mobile programming in the neighborhood, including storytimes, book clubs, and tech help. Details will be posted on the Carroll Gardens Library website. The 120-year-old main branch will reopen next summer with major upgrades, including new elevators, HVAC, lighting, bathrooms, and a dedicated teen space. The temporary branch will close about a month before the permanent location reopens.

Hey Clay Pottery Studio & Gowanus Marketplace | Gowanus | Opening Summer 2025

A new grocery store and pottery studio are coming to a new mixed-use development 420 Carroll. Gowanus Marketplace will offer a wide variety of local and organic foods, sandwiches, salads, freshly squeezed juice, smoothies, and a full cafe. Hey Clay pottery studio will offer classes and memberships for new and seasoned potters. They plan to offer kids programming at some point, but will only have adult offerings at the outset. 420 Carroll recently launched its affordable housing lottery; for more information, click here. Located on the Gowanus waterfront, the development will include a 21-story tower and an adjacent 16-story tower connected by a subterranean tunnel so residents can access amenities in both buildings. Residents will have access to “The Shop,” Domain’s third location offering 14,000 square feet of coworking and affordable art studios, a lounge, multiple outdoor greenspaces including a public plaza, a fully-equipped fitness center, a children’s playroom, onsite bike storage, and the MyDomain suite of resident services offered at all Domain properties. Read more here!

Expansion of Joy Gymnastics | Industry City | Opening Summer 2025

Joy Gymnastics, located at Industry City, will be expanding their facilities this summer. They will remain at the same location, same building, same floor, but will be moving into the unit next door, doubling the size of their current space. Joy Gymnastics was founded out of the desire to create a community where kids are free to be themselves, regardless of age, body type, gender, ethnicity or capability. They offer group and private Recreational Classes, Mini & Summer Camps, Joy Night Out, Open Joy (open play) and Birthdays! Programs are for ages 1.5 to 15 years. Annual membership is $40/year. Class tuition is $124/month and camp tuition is $124/day for members. Joy Night Out is $25 for members, and Open Joy is $20 for members. Birthday parties start at $240.

The Program NYC Youth Basketball Training Facility | Greenpoint | Opening September 2

The Program is a new state-of-the-art basketball training facility opening September 2, 2025 at 255 Java Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Spanning 12,500 square feet, it will feature regulation courts, weight and turf areas, a recovery room, a film room, and more for players ages 6-18. Founded by Griffin Taylor and Jared Effron and backed by supporters including Carmelo Anthony, Sue Bird, Jay-Z, Chris Mullin, Kemba Walker, Miles “Deuce” McBride, OG Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa and more, The Program is dedicated to developing young players through elite coaching and specialized training. Kuei Luck Early Childhood Center | Greenpoint | Opening September 2025 

Kuei Luck Early Childhood Center’s new Greenpoint Campus, located at 171 Calyer Street in Greenpoint, is now accepting pre-enrollment for Fall 2025 for children ages 6 months to 5 years. This Mandarin-immersion nursery and preschool embraces a Reggio Emilia-inspired, play-based curriculum designed to foster creativity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning in a nurturing, child-centered environment. Russian School of Mathematics (RSM) | New location in Park Slope | Opening September 2025

NY Kids Club | New location in Gowanus/Park Slope | Opening September 2025

NY Kids Club and NY Preschool has signed a lease for 3,700 square feet at 655 Union Street, a mixed-use development on the border of Gowanus and Park Slope. This will become the new flagship location of NY Kids Club, relocating from 5th Avenue in Park Slope. There will be two classrooms, a sensory play gym with a 15-foot rock climbing wall and 20-foot trampoline, and spaces for families to gather. Enrollment is now open for NY Preschool and after school programming for the 2025-2026 school year, and enrollment for fall classes and programs will open in May 2025. The center is on track to open in September for the new school year.

CityPickle Brooklyn Bridge | DUMBO | Opening date TBA

CityPickle plans to open 11 outdoor pickleball courts at Anchorage Plaza, under the Brooklyn Bridge between Old Fulton and Washington Streets. The area has been closed to the public for more than 15 years and used for parking and a storage lot for the Department of Transportation. The 60,000 square foot site will also include food trucks, green space, games such as chess, shaded seating areas, bike racks, and areas for community programming. CityPickle’s proposal for the site was chosen by NYC Department of Parks last June for a three-year contract, with the option for three additional one-year extensions. The hub will open once permitting is finalized and construction is complete – probably in the fall of 2025, but no exact date has been announced. Pickleball courts will be open March through November, but other amenities will remain available year-round, including pedestrian and seating areas, food trucks, and areas for community programs. Hours of operations and rates have not been determined, but play time at CityPickle’s Central Park location costs $80+ per hour.

Kids United Park Slope | Park Slope | Opening date TBA

A new indoor development soccer program for ages 1.5 to 8 is coming to Park Slope, at 555 4th Avenue. Kids will be divided into age groups: ages 1-3 and 4-8. Kids United will offer 7 educational programs, with 45-minute classes led by certified coaches, and flexible membership options. New Wellness Facility at St. George Tower | Brooklyn Heights | Opening date TBA

A new 52,000-square-foot private health club and wellness center is set to open at Brooklyn Heights’ historic St. George Tower, located at 43 Clark Street. Developed through a 29-year lease by East Gate Investors and SC Holdings, the facility will occupy the lower levels, ground floor, and second floor of the 30-story Art Deco building, originally part of the Hotel St. George complex. As of now, there is no publicly announced timeline for the project.

Brooklyn RISE Charter School | New location in Sunset Park | Timeline TBA

Brooklyn Rise Charter School plans to build a new K–8 school at 410 40th Street in Sunset Park, on the site of a former gas station, pending environmental testing. The school has signed a 35-year lease for the site. While Brooklyn Rise currently serves grades K-5, it intends to revise its charter to expand to K-8.
