Carroll Gardens Library to close for major renovations

Carroll Gardens Library has served the neighborhood for more than 100 years with its 14,000-plus square-foot interior that retains its original, barrel-vaulted ceiling and other historical features. Carroll Gardens Library will close July 21, 2023 for a much needed renovation project managed by the City’s Department of Design and Construction (DDC). The renovation will include a brand-new teen space on the mezzanine level, a new heating and cooling system, new architectural lighting throughout the main floor and upgrades to the fire alarm and safety systems. The historic details on the main floor of this 100+ year old building will be highlighted through this renovation. This work will take approximately 18 to 24 months to complete.

As of Friday, June 23rd, the Carroll Gardens branch is no longer an option for pickup of newly placed holds. All existing holds will still be sent, and any remaining held items not picked up by 7/21/23 will be sent to Park Slope Library. Returns will be possible via the Union Street book drop outside the library until August. The Brooklyn Heights Library is approximately one mile away; Pacific Library is just a bit further.

Carroll Gardens Library is developing plans to continue serving the community during this time. They are finalizing plans with a nearby community partner to offer story times, one-on-one computer help, and a book club to start. They will also provide bookmobile service (schedule to come). Stay tuned for more information about this.
