New public spaces opening in our neighborhoods in Brooklyn

The open space along the Gowanus canal at 300 Huntington Street which is the new building next to Smith-9th Street station is now accessible featuring seating, water views and more. It is open from dawn to dusk. No skateboarding or bike riding allowed. Read more about the “Extensive construction in Gowanus that forecasts a very different neighborhood ahead” here.

Abolitionist Place will be Downtown Brooklyn’s much needed new green space opening in May 2024 (final opening date tbc). Plans include a new play area, lawn space, dog run, plantings and multiple seating areas. The project is part of the Downtown Brooklyn Redevelopment Plan, a set of space and infrastructure commitments made in 2004 to reinvigorate the neighborhood.
