Free kid-friendly events this week in Brooklyn (5/6-5/12)

There are so many free events for Brooklyn families to enjoy this week, including dumpling making at Brooklyn Children’s Museum, Mother’s Day Spring Fest at Atlantic Terminal Mall, a classic car event at the Brooklyn Navy Yard (free for under 12), and the Open Stages outdoor music festival in Park Slope.

Stomp, Clap and Sing with Bilingual Birdies Duo Concert in Spanish & English @ Central Library | Grand Army Plaza

¡Hola, hola! ¿Cómo estás? Get ready to sing, dance, jump, shake, laugh, march, run, freeze, tap, smile, and have the most fun ever en español with Bilingual Birdies! Families go on a joyful adventure with songs, dance, and puppetry, to learn new words in Spanish while they’re having a blast in this 45-minute live music interactive experience. Whether you know a bit of Spanish already or are completely new to the language, this is the perfect way to celebrate diversity and embrace Latin American cultures! The session is led in English and Spanish and all are welcome. Bilingual Birdies has been rocking the early childhood world in NYC since 2006 and we can’t wait for your family to join this upcoming fiesta!

Dumpling Making with Christine Wong @ Brooklyn Children’s Museum | Crown Heights

Join author and plant-based chef, Christine Wong for an East Asian style dumpling making workshop to celebrate AAPI Month! Participants are invited to learn how to roll dumpling wrappers and fold them in different ways using all types of colorful dough. Get to taste of some delicious veggie dumplings and take your own home to cook and eat later! This program takes place during Amazon Free Hours.

Brooklyn Bridge Parents and Atlantic Terminal Mall have partnered up to host a Spring Fest on Atlantic Terminal Mall in the event space next to Party City. There will be free kids activities, Mother’s Day crafts, and treats for moms! Moms and dads are invited to join with their kids – best for ages 2 to 10 – celebrating spring and mothers, the backbone of society.

 

Wheels of NYC Classic Car Event | Brooklyn Navy Yard

Join Wheels of NYC for a fun afternoon filled with classic cars, live music, food, and drinks at their Navy Yard warehouse location (Building 269). Tickets for kids 12 and under are free! Note: parking inside the Brooklyn Navy Yard is very limited. It is highly recommended that drivers park outside the Navy Yard, close to Wegmans.

Haitian Culture Day Parade | Flatbush

Sophie is this year’s Children’s Book Week spokesperson and poster illustrator! As the spokesperson, Sophie will highlight her amazing poster art and what the theme No Rules. Just Read. means to her. Followed by a reading and signing of her forthcoming book AHOY! with Random House Children’s Books. This year marks the 105th anniversary of Children’s Book Week, the longest-running children’s literacy campaign in the United States. Children’s Book Week is celebrated across the country in schools, public and school libraries, bookstores, community centers, and homes via story times, activity hours, author and illustrator events, scheduled reading time, and more!

The Wordsmith Showcase | Fort Greene Park
