Family-friendly programming in Brooklyn Bridge Park 2025

Brooklyn Bridge Park has announced their 2025 lineup for the outdoor season! Family-friendly highlights include the Kite Festival, the 25th anniversary of Movies With A View, outdoor performances from the Met Opera, free waterfront concerts, a family workshop with American Ballet Theatre, basketball clinics, kayaking, and a Hindu lamp ceremony.All upcoming events and activities here!

On Saturday, May 24, Brooklyn Academy of Music’s DanceAfrica Community Class will be a family-friendly outdoor workshop, led by BAM teaching artist Dánice Jones, teaching rhythms and movement from the African Diaspora. Register here!

During the park’s free kayaking program, visitors can enjoy gliding in a protected embayment on the East River on Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5-7pm, Saturdays from 10am-4pm, with Family Days on Sundays from 12-3:30pm. Kayaking will kick off on May 28 and run through the end of September. No experience is necessary; basic instruction, life vests, and all equipment is provided. Children under 18 must have an adult guardian present. Advance registration is required and opens two weeks ahead of each date.

There’s various educational opportunities for kids on the waterfront, including Community Science Fishing on June 28, July 19, August 16, September 5, and October 3, where all ages can learn catch-and-release fishing basics at Pier 5. There’s also Community Science Seining on May 20, June 7, July 12, August 2, September 20, where participants will use a seine net to humanely catch-and-release marine life at the Pier 4 Beach. Plus, teens interested in ecology are invited to participate in the TIDES Program, where they can earn community service hours with hands-on projects in the park.

Looking for a volunteer project for the whole family? Check out Green Team and Coastal Cleanup, where volunteers assist with gardening and cleaning up the shoreline.

On Saturday, May 31, join American Ballet Theatre for an interactive Family Workshop exploring the magic of storytelling in classical ballets! Designed for children ages 4–12, this session includes a ballet warm-up inspired by the seven movements of dance and time to learn and share a short excerpt from ABT’s repertoire. No prior dance experience required—just bring your energy and favorite dance attire. Register here.

Bargemusic will offer weekly free chamber music concerts at the Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse throughout the season.

Throughout the season, the Environmental Education Canter will have Open Hours on Thursdays and Fridays from 3-5pm and Saturdays from 1-5pm. Save the date to celebrate the Ed Center’s Birthday on Saturday, September 13, with special activities and crafts.

Photoville Festival returns to Brooklyn Bridge Park at Emily Warren Roebling Plaza from June 7-22 with its signature photography exhibits displayed in shipping containers, along with artist-led walking tours and workshops. Photoville Festival will kick off with its opening weekend celebration on June 7 & 8.

The Sounds of Sunset series will offer Friday evening concerts throughout the summer, including Freelance Band on June 13 (electronic fusion, jazz, progressive R&B and alt rock), Revive Big Band Show onJuly 11 (fusion of jazz, hip-hop, R&B), Brooklyn Americana on July 25 (curated selection of festival performers), and Reinaldo De Jesus Band on August 8 (Latin Jazz quartet).

Free Youth Basketball Clinics with King Hoops for kids ages 7-17 are hosted on Tuesday evenings in June and July at the basketball courts at Pier 2. Players may join for individual weeks or the full season. Register here!

On Saturday, June 14, stars of the Metropolitan Opera come to Pier 1 Harbor View Lawn to perform as part of the SummerStage series. And on Friday, June 27, the Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra presents Parisian Nocturne, an evening of French classical music by Ravel, Saint-Saëns, Debussy and Berlioz.

Celebrating its 25th season, Movies With A View returns with free outdoor movies on Thursday evenings in July and August at Pier 1 Harbor View Lawn. Dates include July 10, July 17, July 24, July 31, August 7, August 14, August 21, and August 28. The theme of tis summer’s lineup will be “Women in Hollywood,” and titles will be released in early June. The lawn will open at 6pm and the movie begins at sundown, with free admission.

On Saturday, August 9, come and sing along, listen, and build community at Climate Sing, as artists Amanda Cooper, Lisa D’Amour, Katie Pearl, Jonathan McCrory, and Niegel Smith premiere two brand-new songs celebrating planet earth.

The Hindu Lamp Ceremony returns on Saturday, August 16 with dance artist and educator Aelushi Mistry performing the traditional Hindu Aarti ceremony.

To close out the season, Brooklyn Bridge Park will host their annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 18, an all-day family friendly celebration with live music, arts and crafts, storytelling, lawn games and signature pumpkin patch.
