The Jewish holiday of Purim—celebrated Monday, March 2 and Tuesday, March 3, with weekend events on Sunday, March 1—commemorates Queen Esther and her cousin Mordecai’s triumph over Haman, who sought to destroy the Jewish people in ancient Persia. Traditions include reading the Book of Esther (Megillah), giving food and charity, and sharing a festive meal, with families baking hamantashen, dressing in costume, and celebrating with music and dancing. Our roundup features family-friendly events in DUMBO, Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Park Slope, Gowanus, Crown Heights, Williamsburg, Sheepshead Bay, and Bay Ridge.
