April is filled with spring fun, from Easter and Earth Day celebrations to special events for National Poetry, storytime at Jane’s Carousel, opening weekend for the Brooklyn Cyclones, exciting performances at Kings Theatre and Brooklyn Bowl, Hanami Nights at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and much more! 1. Storytime at Jane’s Carousel

Fridays in April (except 4/10) | 10:15am-10:45am | FREE | Brooklyn Bridge Park

Hosted by Brooklyn Public Library, storytime returns for some springtime stories, songs and Friday morning fun! There is no registration, but arrive early as there is a capacity limit.

2. Celebrate Easter

3. Go to a Cyclones Game | Coney Island

Opening weekend is April 3rd-April 5th with other dates through September | Tickets start at $17/person

The Brooklyn Cyclones are the High-A affiliate of the New York Mets. They play their home games at Maimonides Park in Coney Island. They offer family-friendly pricing, food options, and theme days and giveaways. On Sundays, the first 500 children get ice cream vouchers and can run the bases after the game. On select Sundays, families can play catch on the field before the game! Kids will not want to miss Paw Patrol Day on July 19th and adults will not want to miss their legendary annual Seinfeld Night on August 1st.

4. Celebrate National Poetry Month

    Ring in National Poetry Month with a global lineup of artists who draw on influences from ancient Egypt to contemporary Brooklyn. Featuring music, readings, art-making, talks, and more, the April edition takes its theme from the many inkwells in our encyclopedic collection, including an ancient example in Unrolling Eternity: The Brooklyn Books of the Dead.

    April is National Poetry Month so come to the library and create some of your own. Blackout poetry, or erasure poetry, is a form of poetry created by erasing words from an existing text and framing the result on the page as a poem. It is low pressure and accessible to all. Participants will take pieces of writing and create new poems from them. Text and art supplies (to decorate your poem, if you wish) will be provided. This program is for all ages.

    Poetry in the Park, organized by the Fort Greene Park Conservancy and curated in partnership with Najee Omar, is an annual community celebration where poetry, music, and creativity fill the park for an afternoon of connection and inspiration. Held in celebration of National Poetry Month, the festival invites neighbors from across Brooklyn to gather beneath the trees and open sky to listen, create, and share. This year’s festival features powerful performances from acclaimed poets, a vibrant community open mic, and live DJ sets that keep the energy flowing throughout the day. Guests can also jump into hands-on creative experiences, including zine-making, walking haikus through the park, and a mind, body, and soul reflection space for writing and grounding.
