Around the corner (sponsored)

One of the best parts of apartment hunting is imagining the life that comes with the address. A few nearby favorites:  a bakery for the morning routine, a park for fresh air, and a pizza spot for an easy dinner, help fill in that picture. Think of this as a small neighborhood guide to go with each home.

DUMBO is one of those neighborhoods where a Saturday is easy to picture, a pastry from Almondine Bakery, a walk through Brooklyn Bridge Park, and plenty of pizza options on the way home. The neighborhood happens to have an unusual concentration of pizza spots, with a few of the best known including Juliana’s, Grimaldi’s, and L&B Spumoni Gardens. Add the waterfront, playground stops, and space for scooters and strollers, and DUMBO has a lot to offer day to day. That is part of the appeal of living at 51 Jay St, Unit 5O or 133 Water St, Unit 5A, both close to some of the neighborhood’s best known spots.

For people who want to be in the middle of things without giving up neighborhood character, Downtown Brooklyn is easy to settle into. At University Towers, you are close to Junior’s for a slice of cheesecake, Fort Greene Park when you want outdoor space, and Grazziela’s for a quick dinner. On Saturdays, the Greenmarket at Fort Greene Park and the BAM and Lafayette corridor add another layer of activity to the neighborhood, which contributes to the draw of homes like 175 Willoughby St, Unit 5K and 122 Ashland Pl, Unit 12L. For a full list of University Towers listings, visit The Zolan Rossiter Team’s website.

Harlem around 122nd offers a lot within a few blocks. Morningside Park is right there for the hill, the views, and the kids who need somewhere to actually run. Levain is a block away, which is either very convenient or a real problem depending on your willpower. Sottocasa handles pizza night without any fuss. There’s a lot of history on this stretch, and you still feel it in the rowhouses, stoops, and church bells. 271 West 122nd St, Unit A is the kind apartment that makes it easy to enjoy the neighborhood as part of your routine.

Windsor Terrace has Prospect Park as its backdrop, which changes everything about how a day feels. At 310 Windsor Pl, Unit 32, Regina Bakery is a great morning option, Prospect Park is right across the street and Joe’s Pizzeria is nearby when a pie is the plan. Windsor Terrace was incorporated as a village in 1851, and some of that smaller-scale residential feel is still part of the neighborhood now, in the row houses, brick homes, and quieter blocks that still shape the area.

In Bushwick, the stretch around 1229 Putnam Ave, Unit 3B has a rhythm of its own. L’Imprimerie is nearby for the morning, Maria Hernandez Park is there when you want to be outside, and Tony’s Pizza still holds its place as one of the area’s best known pizza spots. Putnam Avenue also has that low-rise, early 1900s Brooklyn feel, which gives this part of the neighborhood some of its character.

111 4th Ave, Unit 3N sits in that downtown overlap where Greenwich Village, Union Square, and the East Village all start borrowing from each other. Hani’s and Librae are there when you want something better than a coffee and muffin, Union Square Park is a few minutes away, and Slicehaus covers pizza night. Even the building reflects that layered part of downtown. The building began as the International Tailoring Company Building, and its loft history is a reminder of the area’s industrial past.

A home is never just an apartment. It’s also the places around it that become part of daily life, the bakery you end up knowing well, the park you pass through, the pizza place you rely on more than you meant to. These are a few of the spots just around the corner from places you could call home.
