Free kid-friendly events in May in Brooklyn

Free outdoor events and activities are taking place in May including kid-friendly Ping-Pong, our annual Bklyn Block Party with 20 different free kids activities, concerts and family fitness classes.

Prospect Park Children’s Corner/Spring Fling| Prospect Park | 5/15

Prospect Park Alliance is teaming up with Brooklyn Public Library and local partners to host a day of family fun with library programs, entertainment, and civic engagement! Enjoy music and art programs, bubble making, BPL Bookmobile, Ranked Choice Voting workshop and much more! The free event takes place on Saturday, May 15th from 11 am to 4 pm.

Kid-friendly Ping Pong | MetroTech Commons | 5/11, 5/18 & 5/25

Outdoor ping-pong at MetroTech Commons on Tuesdays 5/18, 5/25 and 6/1 from 5 to 7 pm. DJs set the soundtrack on Tuesday evenings while you enjoy friendly ping pong games with The Push. Note: paddles and balls will be sanitized after each use. Register here.

BKLYN Kids Block Party | City Point & Albee Square | 5/22

Enjoy FREE activities for kids 1 to 10 years old including Balloon Artists, Acrobats, Virtual Reality Games, Science Lab, Bouncy House, Chess, Book Giveaways and more! Outdoors at Albee Square and Indoors at City Point in Downtown Brooklyn. The event is co-hosted by Brooklyn Bridge Parents, Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, City Point and BASIS Independent Brooklyn. Public seining in Brooklyn Bridge Park | 5/22

Discover the amazing biodiversity of the Hudson River Estuary as our staff and scientists use a seine net to catch and release incredible creatures that live below the water’s surface! This is a free event and advance registration is required. The Conservancy will host two seining sessions at the Pier 4 beach on May 22: 11:30am-12:30pm and 12:30pm-1:30pm. Family Fitness | Brooklyn Bridge Park | 5/23

Family Fitness at the Liberty Lawn at Pier 6 every 4th Sunday from 12 to 12.45 pm starting 5/23. Advanced registration is required. Registration opens every Tuesday at 10 am for fitness classes the following week. Find out more here.

Live Window Concert | Brooklyn Heights | 5/23

The Music House Brooklyn will hold their 12th annual 4th Window Concert on May 23rd, at 4 PM at the corner of State and Henry Street. State Street will be closed to traffic beginning at 2:30. 13 talented students from The Music House Brooklyn, ages 7 to 17, will perform classic rock arrangements on piano plus Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue in concerto form.

Outdoor concert with the Brownstone Baritone | weekly

Brooklyn Heights resident, opera singer and St. Ann’s music teacher Peter Kendall Clark has created Songs From The Ledge hosting free outdoor concerts weekly. If you find yourself in Brooklyn Heights, join them on Wednesdays (rain date Fridays) at 6 pm in Brooklyn Heights. Find out more here.

Outdoor storytime in Brooklyn Bridge Park | Weekly Wednesdays

Librarians from the Brooklyn Heights and Annex branches will be reading stories they love to share! To find out more about Summer Reading 2021 at Brooklyn Public Library click here. The only thing more fun than a good storytime is one with a view of the Brooklyn Bridge. Recommended for ages 2-7. This event takes place in-person every other Wednesday from May 19-July 28 and will switch off between the Pier 3 Greenway Terrace and John Street Lawn locations of the Park. Advance registration is required. A limited number of spaces are available. Registration is now open at this link for Storytime on May 19 at Pier 3 Greenway Terrace.

BAM DanceAfrica Community Workshop | Brooklyn Bridge Park | 5/29

Caregivers and children of all ages deepen their engagement with DanceAfrica in this fun-filled, hands-on workshop, presented in Brooklyn Bridge Park at Pier 6 Liberty Lawn on May 29th from 10 to 11.15 am. Veteran traditional Haitian dancer, choreographer, and teaching artist Nadia Dieudonné guides families through the fundamentals of Haitian movement and music.
