New amenities for families are now open or on the way in Brooklyn! Among the latest highlights: Brooklyn Arts Exchange has unveiled a new studio in Downtown Brooklyn with engaging programs for youth and teens, a family and women’s health center is now open on Fulton Mall, and Pioneer Works in Red Hook has completed an exciting renovation.
Even more is on the horizon, with a new playground set to open this spring in Brooklyn Bridge Park, a trampoline park coming soon to Bay Ridge, and a comic book shop in Park Slope.
- The Walgreens at 16 Court Street and Montague Street will close on March 24. Those with prescriptions at this location will be transferred to the location at 120 Court Street and Atlantic Avenue. This is part of a larger closure of Walgreens stores, with 500 more locations closing this year and 1,200 over the next three years.
Brooklyn Arts Exchange Annex | Downtown Brooklyn | NOW OPEN
Brooklyn Arts Exchange (BAX) has a brand new Annex Space located on the ground floor of 80 Hanson Place in Downtown Brooklyn. It is an 865 square-foot, column-free studio with sprung floor and black Marley. The studio has Bluetooth speaker, free WiFi, a lounge, and an outdoor garden. The fully accessible space is an extension of BAX’s home in Park Slope. With the Annex, BAX plans to offer rehearsal rentals, expand their work with disabled artists, and host artist-led workshops for adults and more youth programs, including gender-inclusive and teen initiatives. The BAX Annex will also be the official home of EmergeNYC, their flagship program for emerging artist-activists, and the Drag Summer Arts Program, a youth program exploring drag performance. The Annex’s free Open House 0n Saturday, March 8 celebrates this grand opening with a costume and accessories swap, rental information, sample BAX programming, and more.
Renovation of Pioneer Works | Red Hook | NOW OPEN
The $12.7 million renovation of Pioneer Works, a 25,000 square foot nonprofit cultural arts center in Red Hook, was brought to completion in February. The effort to upgrade to full ADA accessibility and expand art programming was led by Empire State Development. Pioneer Works is located in a 150-year-old former ironworks factory, with a 20,000 square foot garden. Pioneer Works offers free interdisciplinary programming in visual and performing arts, music, and science, and hosts workshops, continuing education classes, and K-12 STEAM programs. The renovation include an elevator connecting three floors, climate control systems, and accessible pathways through the garden, where they have outdoor installations, performances and more community programs. Pioneer Works also hopes to open New York City’s first-ever public observatory on their roof.
The Brooklyn Hospital Center’s New Family & Women’s Health Center | Downtown Brooklyn | NOW OPEN
The Brooklyn Hospital Center has opened a brand new Family & Women’s Health Center at 523 Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn. Three of the hospital’s outpatient practices will now be housed in this facility: Family Medicine Center, Women’s Health Center, and Perinatal Diagnostics Center. The new center is modern and large, and located right on Fulton Mall, just a few blocks from the main hospital at 121 DeKalb Avenue. All providers and phone numbers are staying the same, and all existing appointments are automatically switched to this new location.
Golf Lessons at Golfzon Social | Downtown Brooklyn | NOW AVAILABLE
Golfzon Social, the indoor golf venue and sports bar at 11 Hoyt Street, is now offering lessons for small groups, kids, and adults with certified instructors. Guitar Center, which was previously located in Atlantic Center, has moved to 536 Fulton Street. The store is a full-service hub for musicians and audio professionals. In addition to their vast selection of guitars, drums, keyboards, DJ equipment, and studio production tools, Guitar Center offers expert music lessons, professional instrument repairs, and short-term rentals for events. They also buy, sell, and trade used gear.

PeeKaBoo Kid’s Bounce & Bubble Café | Bay Ridge | NOW OPEN
A new children’s indoor playground for ages 7 and under has opened in Bay Ridge, at 8912 3rd Avenue. It’s a kid’s bounce house that also serves bubble tea. They also offer birthday parties! Open 11am-7pm daily.
Good Vets | Brooklyn Heights | NOW OPEN

Hey Clay Pottery Studio & Gowanus Marketplace | Inside mixed-income development in Gowanus | Opening Summer 2025
A new grocery store and pottery studio will respectively occupy 2,234 and 1,750 square feet in the two-building development 420 Carroll, which has brought 360 homes to Gowanus. Gowanus Marketplace will offer a wide variety of local and organic foods, sandwiches, salads, freshly squeezed juice, smoothies, and a full cafe. Hey Clay pottery studio will offer classes and memberships for new and seasoned potters. Located on the Gowanus waterfront, the development will include a 21-story tower and an adjacent 16-story tower connected by a subterranean tunnel so residents can access amenities in both buildings. Accessibility Upgrades at Borough Hall Station | Downtown Brooklyn | Completion date TBA
ADA upgrades are coming soon to the Borough Hall Station in Downtown Brooklyn! Construction is currently in progress on three new elevators (one from the street to the 4/5 train mezzanine and two between the mezzanine and northbound/southbound 4/5 train platforms). The project also includes improved boarding area, new platform edges, and more.

Lidl Grocery Store | Crown Heights | Opening date TBA
A mixed-use building with housing and a new Lidl grocery store is coming up at 750 Bedford Avenue in Crown Heights. This Crown Heights location is in addition to Lidl stores arriving elsewhere in Brooklyn, including 490 Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn and 120 Fifth Avenue in Park Slope. The German discount grocery store sells fresh produce, meat, seafood, baked goods, grocery essentials, and more at low prices. In addition to food, Lidl also sells clothing, home appliances, kitchen equipment, and more at discounted prices.
Launch Trampoline Park | New location in Bay Ridge | Opening date TBA
The chain Launch Entertainment is opening a new center in Brooklyn, which will include a trampoline park, rock climbing, ninja warrior courses, and an arcade. There will also be an indoor playground, battle beam, dodgeball, dunk basketball, VR experiences, and slides. The facility will be located at 531 86th Street in Bay Ridge. The team behind Little Things Toy Store is opening a comic book shop in the space formerly occupied by Jackrabbit Sports, at 151 7th Avenue, between Garfield and Carroll. More info and an opening date coming soon!
Carroll Gardens Library | Carroll Gardens | Reopening Summer 2026
The Carroll Gardens Library closed in July 2023 for major renovations. The renovations continue, with some unexpected complications, and the reopening is now slated for Summer 2026. However, weekly children’s programs are ongoing; see upcoming events here.
