New amenities for families in our neighborhoods June ’25

Brooklyn families have lots of exciting openings to look forward to this summer and fall! New indoor play spaces have launched Clinton Hill and Coney Island, Space Club in Fort Greene has opened their rooftop—complete with a brand new bounce mountain—and KinderPrep Montessori has a new Summer Program Enrichment Center in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Plus, basketball facilities are popping up all over Brooklyn, including two coming this fall: the Brooklyn Basketball training center in Downtown Brooklyn by the Nets and NY Liberty and The Program NYC’s youth facility in Greenpoint. And new educational institutions are on their way: Kuei Luck in Greenpoint, Russian School of Mathematics in Park Slope, and NY Kids Club’s new flagship in Gowanus.

House of Wonder Family Café and Playspace | Clinton Hill | NOW OPEN

This coffee shop for designed for families, complete with a playspace for ages 0-6, has launched in Clinton Hill. Based in Copenhagen, the Scandinavian-inspired café is designed to give parents and caregivers clear sight lines of kids at all times while they enjoy coffee and pastries. Their play space includes tons of tables and seating (with Tripp Trapp high chairs for little ones) in the café area, plus wooden toys and soft play areas in the playspace. No pre-booking necessary, just drop in! Admission will be free for all of June!

Slide Hill | Governors Island | NOW REOPENED 

After months of planned renovations, Slide Hill on Governors Island has now reopened for the summer! Slide Hill has four different slides of different heights, but it is famous for being home to NYC’s longest slide at 57 feet and 3 stories high! Younger kids will enjoy some of the shorter slides, including one that is built for two people, so parents can slide down in tandem. Slide Hill is located on the southern half of the island, not far from Picnic Point.

Space Club Rooftop Bounce Mountain | Fort Greene | NOW OPEN

The newest location of Space Club in Fort Greene has opened their rooftop for the season, with a bounce mountain for kids to enjoy! It’s being soft launched for members only first, and then will become amiable to everyone. Space Club is also opening a third location in Vinegar Hill next, located at 50 Gold Street. Stay tuned!

KinderPrep Montessori’s New Summer Program Enrichment Center | Brooklyn Bridge Park | NOW OPEN

KinderPrep Montessori has opened a brand-new 2,500 square foot Summer Program Enrichment Center in Brooklyn Bridge Park for children ages 4 to 7. The space features a Dance Studio, Chess Corner, Role Play Area with Playhouses, dedicated space for Music & Sign Language, Spanish Language, Puppetsburg, Science Lab, and Abacus Math. It also includes a presentation area for shows and performances, as well as a dining area. And of course, Brooklyn Bridge Park is their backyard! Maven Valley Prep Daycare and Preschool | Park Slope | NOW OPEN

Maven Valley Prep is a new daycare and preschool in Park Slope, located at 348 13th Street. They serve children as young as 5 months old up to 5 years old, with both half-day and full-day programs. The daycare has newly renovated classrooms and a private outdoor space. They are currently open for summer coverage, and will kick off the 2025-26 school year as a provider of 3K and UPK programs. New NERF Experience at Kick Axe Brooklyn | Gowanus | NOW OPEN

This summer, Kick Axe Brooklyn is launching a new NERF Experience that’s great for kids of all ages and families! Kids can team up and compete with a variety of NERF Blasters, bazookas, plus bows & arrows to hit targets, bullseyes, and even play interactive games such as Tic-Tac-Toe and Battleship. They also host groups and birthday parties, with food and drink menus, an outdoor patio, and an array of board games and jumbo yard games.

“Mini Forest” on North Fifth Street Pier | Williamsburg | NOW OPEN

Brooklyn’s first-ever “mini forest” has been unveiled on the Williamsburg waterfront. Located on a little-used lot on North With Street Pier, the new green space is filled with trees, wildflowers, decaying logs, and stones. The project is inspired by Japanese “Miyawaki forests,” which are small in size but can have a big impact on air quality, improved biodiversity, and pollination. The mini forest was the effort of Councilmember Lincoln Restler, in partnership with NYC Parks.

DII | Sunset Park | NOW OPEN

A new DII (Discount International Imports) store opened this month at 5115 5th Avenue in Sunset Park. They sell a wide range of discount home goods and seasonal items, including clothes, holiday decorations, home goods, toys, and much more!

Catch Air | Coney Island | NOW OPEN

Catch Air, a space-themed indoor play space, is opening soon at 608 Sheepshead Bay in Coney Island. Catch Air is best for crawling babies up to 12 years old. The indoor playground will have a multi-level jungle gym, giant slides, ball blaster area, a toddler zone for ages 4 and under. Plus, they will host birthday parties; learn more about their packages here! And mark your calendar for their Grand Opening on June 25 from 10am to 7pm. Club Pilates | New location in Downtown Brooklyn | Opening June 30, 2025

A new Club Pilates is coming to 562 State Street in Downtown Brooklyn, with classes starting on June 30 ! Club Pilates specializes in reformer-based group Pilates classes designed for all levels and fitness backgrounds. Classes are complemented by TriggerPoint, TRX®, springboard, EXO-Chair and other equipment designed to build strength, mobility and stability. Club Pilates even offers teen classes for ages 14-19, where young adults will learn to use the Reformer, Springboard, and more. See all class programming here. Carroll Gardens Pop-Up Library | Carroll Gardens | Opening July 8, 2025

On July 8, the Carroll Gardens Library will open their temporary pop-up location at 250 Baltic Street. Patrons will be able to browse and borrow books, pick up holds, register for library cards, and get help from librarians. Hours will be Mondays and Tuesdays 1-5pm, Thursdays 3-7pm, Fridays 10am-2pm, and closed Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Storytime programming will continue at an off-site location on Wednesdays! Join for the Pop-Up Library’s Opening Celebration on Tuesday, July 8 at 1pm. And stay tuned for more updates on the return of the 120-year-old main branch next summer. It has been closed since July 2023 for major renovations, with its reopening now delayed until Summer 2026. When it reopens, it will have new elevators, HVAC, lighting, bathrooms, and a dedicated teen space. The temporary branch will close about a month before the permanent location reopens.

iFLY Indoor Skydiving | New location in Long Island City | Opening July 18, 2025

The indoor skydiving facility iFLY will be opening a new location in Long Island City, Queens this July! The experience is recommended for ages 3 and up, and iFLY’s instructors will help you choose a flight experience and then assist with one-on-one flight instruction in their vertical wind tunnel. They will offer STEM field trips, birthday parties, and more private events.

Hey Clay Pottery Studio & Gowanus Marketplace | Gowanus | Opening Summer 2025

A new grocery store and pottery studio are coming to a new mixed-use development 420 Carroll. Gowanus Marketplace will offer a wide variety of local and organic foods, sandwiches, salads, freshly squeezed juice, smoothies, and a full cafe. Hey Clay pottery studio will offer classes and memberships for new and seasoned potters. They plan to offer kids programming at some point, but will only have adult offerings at the outset. 420 Carroll recently launched its affordable housing lottery; for more information, click here. Located on the Gowanus waterfront, the development will include a 21-story tower and an adjacent 16-story tower connected by a subterranean tunnel so residents can access amenities in both buildings. Residents will have access to “The Shop,” Domain’s third location offering 14,000 square feet of coworking and affordable art studios, a lounge, multiple outdoor greenspaces including a public plaza, a fully-equipped fitness center, a children’s playroom, onsite bike storage, and the MyDomain suite of resident services offered at all Domain properties. Read more here!

Expansion of Joy Gymnastics | Industry City | Opening Summer 2025

Joy Gymnastics, located at Industry City, will be expanding their facilities this summer. They will remain at the same location, same building, same floor, but will be moving into the unit next door, doubling the size of their current space. Joy Gymnastics was founded out of the desire to create a community where kids are free to be themselves, regardless of age, body type, gender, ethnicity or capability. They offer group and private Recreational Classes, Mini & Summer Camps, Joy Night Out, Open Joy (open play) and Birthdays! Programs are for ages 1.5 to 15 years. Annual membership is $40/year. Class tuition is $124/month and camp tuition is $124/day for members. Joy Night Out is $25 for members, and Open Joy is $20 for members. Birthday parties start at $240.

Brooklyn Basketball Training Center | Downtown Brooklyn | Opening Fall 2025

The Brooklyn Basketball Training Center by the Brooklyn Nets and New York Liberty, located just across the street from Barclays Center on Flatbush Avenue, will open its doors this fall. The 19,000 square foot facility will offer after-school and weekend programming, camps, birthday parties, clinics, and much more for kids ages 6 to 14.

The Program NYC Youth Basketball Training Facility | Greenpoint | Opening September 2, 2025

The Program is a new state-of-the-art basketball training facility opening September 2, 2025 at 255 Java Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Spanning 12,500 square feet, it will feature regulation courts, weight and turf areas, a recovery room, a film room, and more for players ages 6-18. Founded by Griffin Taylor and Jared Effron and backed by supporters including Carmelo Anthony, Sue Bird, Jay-Z, Chris Mullin, Kemba Walker, Miles “Deuce” McBride, OG Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa and more, The Program is dedicated to developing young players through elite coaching and specialized training. McManus Irish Dance | New classes in Brooklyn Heights | Coming September 2025

After 12 years in Manhattan and Queens, McManus Irish Dance is bringing its Irish dance programs to Brooklyn Heights. A full term of fall classes will be offered at the Assumption Church Parish Center on Middagh Street, starting on September 9. Classes will be offered for ages 4-6 and for ages 7 and up. Kuei Luck Early Childhood Center | Greenpoint | Opening September 2025 

Kuei Luck Early Childhood Center’s new Greenpoint Campus, located at 171 Calyer Street in Greenpoint, is now accepting pre-enrollment for Fall 2025 for children ages 6 months to 5 years. This Mandarin-immersion nursery and preschool embraces a Reggio Emilia-inspired, play-based curriculum designed to foster creativity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning in a nurturing, child-centered environment. Russian School of Mathematics (RSM) | New location in Park Slope | Opening September 2025

NY Kids Club | New location in Gowanus/Park Slope | Opening September 2025

NY Kids Club is opening a new school at 204 4th Avenue, on the ground floor of a new development on the border of Park Slope and Gowanus. There will be two big classrooms, a 15-foot rock wall, and a sensory play gym with a trampoline. It will offer NY Preschool, enrichment classes for 2 months up to 8 years, after-school programming with pick-up from other schools in the area, camps, birthday parties, PJ parties, open play, and more! The school will open up in August for tours, events, and sample classes, and they’ll be ready to kick off the school year in September. Save the date for the weekend Friday, August 22 through Sunday, August 24 for free family events including a movie event and PJ party, plus sample classes! And mark your calendar for the Grand Opening on Saturday, September 20, with open play, rock climbing, face painting, a concert, family photos with a professional photographer, art projects, party favors, and more fun for ages 5 months to 8 years.

CityPickle Brooklyn Bridge | DUMBO | Opening date TBA

CityPickle plans to open 11 outdoor pickleball courts at Anchorage Plaza, under the Brooklyn Bridge between Old Fulton and Washington Streets. The area has been closed to the public for more than 15 years and used for parking and a storage lot for the Department of Transportation. The 60,000 square foot site will also include food trucks, green space, games such as chess, shaded seating areas, bike racks, and areas for community programming. CityPickle’s proposal for the site was chosen by NYC Department of Parks last June for a three-year contract, with the option for three additional one-year extensions. The hub will open once permitting is finalized and construction is complete – probably in the fall of 2025, but no exact date has been announced. Pickleball courts will be open March through November, but other amenities will remain available year-round, including pedestrian and seating areas, food trucks, and areas for community programs. Hours of operations and rates have not been determined, but play time at CityPickle’s Central Park location costs $80+ per hour.

Kids United Park Slope | Park Slope | Opening date TBA

A new indoor development soccer program for ages 1.5 to 8 is coming to Park Slope, at 555 4th Avenue. Kids will be divided into age groups: ages 1-3 and 4-8. Kids United will offer 7 educational programs, with 45-minute classes led by certified coaches, and flexible membership options. Space Club | New location in Vinegar Hill | Opening date TBA

Space Club, the popular play space with locations in Greenpoint and Fort Greene, will open a 3rd location in Vinegar Hill at 50 Gold Street (and Plymouth Street). Opening date has yet to be announced, stay tuned!

Brooklyn RISE Charter School | New location in Sunset Park | Timeline TBA

Brooklyn Rise Charter School plans to build a new K-8 school at 410 40th Street in Sunset Park, on the site of a former gas station, pending environmental testing. The school has signed a 35-year lease for the site. While Brooklyn Rise currently serves grades K-5, it intends to revise its charter to expand to K-8. Community members are invited to attend District 15 Community Education Council meetings, as well as Community Board 7 meetings.

NY Liberty Basketball Practice Facility | Greenpoint | Opening 2027

The reigning WNBA Champion New York Liberty announced that the team will build an $80-million-dollar state-of-the-art practice facility, spanning 75,000 square-feet in Greenpoint. Projected to open in 2027 with construction costs will be fully-funded by the Liberty’s ownership group. There will be a new locker room concept, indoor practice courts and an outdoor court, roof deck dining area, training rooms, and recovery and spa amenities. The Liberty are committed to growing their Brooklyn Basketball program for young players, and this new facility will be able to host clinics and camps for the next generation of girls and boys.
