New restaurants, bars, bakeries, and cafés that opened in our neighborhoods in July ’25

Brooklyn’s dining scene saw a surge of restaurant openings this month, including an Italian spot from the Four Horsemen team in Williamsburg, a Breads Bakery kiosk in Brooklyn Bridge Park, a dim sum café with wine and coffee in Park Slope, a new Mexican cocktail bar in Greenpoint, and a Japanese bakery in Industry City.

Looking ahead, there’s plenty more on the horizon: Gertie’s two new locations in Prospect Heights and Carroll Gardens, a Lidl supermarket planned for Park Slope, and a sourdough pizza joint in the works for Red Hook.

But first, here are some of this month’s notable closings:

  • Amai Bā, the ice cream and espresso shop on Henry Street in Brooklyn Heights, has closed their doors and announced that they’re shifting to a “Freezer to Doorstep” delivery model. Stay tuned on their Instagram for updates!
  • After moving out of their original Brooklyn Heights space and briefly sharing space with PIPS at 129 Atlantic Avenue, the takeaway spot Summerfield pivoted to closing their doors permanently.
  • Patti Ann’s in Prospect Heights, a family-friendly Midwestern restaurant and bakery, closed this month.
  • R&D Foods is closing at 602 Vanderbilt Ave. in Prospect Heights on August 9 after 11 years. Gertie, the Williamsburg diner and sister to Gertrude’s in Prospect Heights, will take over the space this fall. R&D’s sister shop for home goods, R&D Goods, will remain open at 600 Vanderbilt Ave.
  • Mitchell’s Soul Food, the Southern comfort food spot on Vanderbilt Avenue Prospect Heights, has closed permanently after more than 40 years in business.
  • Dirty Precious, a cocktail bar in Gowanus, will close their doors on August 9 after their lease expires.
  • In East Williamsburg, the live music venue and bar Our Wicked Lady closed this month, on their 10th annivesary.
  • Fin du Monde, the Greenpoint restaurant serving French and American fare, has announced that they will have their last dinner service on August 16. However, they will offer private events and cooking classes starting in mid-September. Catch all their updates here.
  • The beloved bar Pencil Factory closed this month, and the neighborhood came out in droves to celebrate.

This month’s restaurant openings

Meat Up | DUMBO

The halal gyro spot Meat Up has opened on Old Fulton Street in DUMBO, and is focused on grilled meats that are Turkish & Mediterranean inspired. You can make your own pita, roll, or bowl, filled with beef, chicken, or falafel, and fresh toppings and sauces. It’s a fast, casual lunch option before you hit Brooklyn Bridge Park.

7th Street Burger | DUMBO

A brand new location of 7th Street Burger is now open at 17 Old Fulton Street, serving smashburgers, fries, and shakes. In addition to their signature burgers, they also have loaded fries, topped with either beef or impossible burger. You can also add spicy jalapeño to any of their menu items.

Taverna de Mariscos | DUMBO

A new Mexican seafood spot with outdoor seating has popped up on Water Street in DUMBO, serving tacos, ceviche, aguachiles, burrito bowls, and oysters.

Breads Bakery | Brooklyn Bridge Park

Breads Bakery has opened their kiosk at the park’s new Pier 1 Pavilion, serving their famous babka, plus pastries, cookies, freshly baked breads, and more treats, including an inventive “babka pizza.” Open daily from 7am to 8pm, now you can grab a coffee and sweet before your stroll in the park!

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream | Brooklyn Heights | Opening date TBA

In addition to their new Flavor Lab at 136 Franklin Street in Greenpoint and a new location at City Point in Downtown Brooklyn, Van Leeuwen also has a new scoop shop that just opened at 151 Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights.

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream | Downtown Brooklyn

Van Leeuwen seems to be popping up with new locations all over Brooklyn. At their new City Point scoop shop, you’ll super-creamy ice creams, classic flavors, and inventive vegan options to Downtown Brooklyn. Try Earl Grey Tea, Honeycomb, or dairy-free Cookie Crumble Strawberry Jam.

BK Gangnam | Downtown Brooklyn

BK Gangnam just launched in DeKalb Market Hall at City Point, serving Korean street food favorites like fried chicken sandwiches, wings, traditional gimbap (rice, vegetables, and seafood or meat rolled in dried seaweed), and crispy corn dogs.

Chick-fil-A | Downtown Brooklyn

The national fast-food chain has a new outpost at Smith and Livingston in Downtown Brooklyn. Favorites include the original Chicken Sandwich, waffle fries, and milkshakes.

Clover Smoothie & Tea | Cobble Hill

Now open on Smith Street between Dean and Bergen, Clover is serving original smoothies like Mango Mood and Matcha Lover, along with cold-pressed juice, wellness shots, and acai bowls.

16 Handles | Cobble Hill

The famous frozen yogurt chain celebrated its grand opening at 300 Court Street this month. At the self-serve chain, you can choose from a variety of frozen yogurts and a range of toppings.

Tera Mera | Cobble Hill 

This Indian “snack bar” was formerly called Taza MKT, based in Industry City. Their new location at 272 Court Street in Cobble Hill serves casual Indian home cooking from chef-owner Shalini Vaswani, from butter chicken to spicy vindaloo, to vegetarian and vegan options. They also have a lovely back patio, plus a retail section of Indian foods and spices.

Fish Tales Gourmet Seafood Market | Cobble Hill

Reopened on July 14 at 197 Court Street, just down the street from their original location, Fish Tales has expanded to a new, modern space while continuing to offer high-quality, freshly caught seafood.You’ll also find hand-sliced smoked fish, imported and domestic caviars, and prepared foods for takeaway, ranging from teriyaki salmon to steamed lobsters.

Tortelli | Carroll Gardens

The pasta shop Tortelli has opened at 359 Sackett Street, near Smith. Expect handmade pasta and focaccia that you can either eat there or bring home. They also source Italian pantry items and ingredients: tomato sauces, olive oil, mozzarella, wine, and more, all straight from Italy!

Osteria Radisa | Carroll Gardens

From the team behind Clinton Hill’s Aita, Osteria Radisa serves Italian dishes Emilia-Romagna region. They’re now open for weekend brunch starting at 11am. Enjoy the bomboloncini with cherry marmellata on their sidewalk patio.

Poppy’s Outpost | Columbia Street Waterfront District

A new outpost of the beloved bakery Poppy’s has opened on Columbia Street between Degraw and Sackett. At this location, they’ll be testing baked goods out their their commissary kitchen and serving coffee and select pastries through a to-go window. Expect egg danishes, chai spice buns, and cherry galettes. Open Wednesdays through Sundays from 8am to 1pm.

HOM Cafe and Wine | Park Slope

Now open at 72 7th Avenue between Lincoln and Berkeley Place, HOM offers specialty coffee, an all-day dim sum menu, and curated wine in the evenings. The menu features lotus leaf sticky rice, shrimp dumplings, bacon-wrapped shrimp skewers, and more dim sum favorites. In addition to espresso drinks, they also offer speciality drinks like Vietnamese coconut iced coffee, a Thai tea espresso latte, and a brown sugar matcha.

Drip & Blend | Park Slope

A new coffee and juice bar called Drip & Blend has opened at 440 4th Avenue in Park Slope. They serve coffee, smoothies and juices, crepes and waffles, prepared foods, baked goods, and acai bowls.

Zagaya Wine Bar | Park Slope

A neighborhood wine bar “with global soul,” Zagaya has opened at 471 16th Street near Prospect Park. You can pair your glass of wine with a charcuterie or cheese board, complete with cured meats, aged cheese, dried fruit, jam, and bread. They also offer live music and poetry on select nights.

Poseidon Restaurant Bar & Grill | Prospect Heights

Poseidon is now open at 279 Flatbush Ave at St. Marks Avenue, serving seafood dishes, classic bar fare, and hookah in a casual space near Barclays. They are also scheduling live music, karaoke, and DJ sets, with brunch entertainment on Sundays from 2-11pm and Karaoke Mondays from 5-11pm.

I Cavallini | Williamsburg

The behind the acclaimed wine bar Four Horsemen has opened a long-awaited Italian restaurant on Grand Street near Roebling Street (just down the street from Four Horsemen). I Cavallini has around 70 seats and a backyard, and the kitchen serves Tuscan fare. I Cavallini serves not-to-be-missed handmade pastas and more Italian dishes, plus beer, wine, and cocktails.

Casa Cugine | Williamsburg

Danny Mondello—aka Italian-American influencer Meals by Cug, a Staten Islander known for his viral food reviews— opened his very own Italian sandwich shop Casa Cugine in Williamsburg, near a stretch of historic Italian delis.

Paolina | Williamsburg

Paolina has a very small menu: a falafel pita ($14) and fries. They make the sandwich right in front of you, complete with fresh toppings like cucumber, onions, and cabbage. Open Tuesday through Sunday from noon until they sell out, they are located at 287 Bedford Avenue, and have limited counter seating with bar stools.

Stretch Pizza | Williamsburg

Stretch Pizza expanded to Domino Square this July. Founded by chefs Wylie Dufresne and Gadi Peleg, the menu features New York-style pizza with inventive toppings like chickpea fries and pretzel-crusted soft serve. They will also serve beer, wine, and cocktails like a sparkling Negroni.

Rose Marie | Williamsburg 

The East Village Tex-Mex spot Yellow Rose has opened a new bar with Southern food in Williamsburg, in a cozy space on the corner of Ainslie and Lorimer. They serve cocktails, beer, and comfort food, such as their Rose Marie Patty Melt.

Cafe O’te | Greenpoint

Located at 38 Norman Avenue, this new tea-focused café will offer matcha, hojicha, and other specialty teas in a cozy, minimalist space. It’s located inside the 50 Norman complex. The signature dish is the $35 Wagyu Hamburg (a bundles burger), made with imported Japanese Wagyu and American Wagyu brisket. There are also salads, desserts, plus sake, wine and beer.

Frijoleros | Greenpoint

Frijoleros, a new Mexican cocktail bar launched by native Brooklynites, opened July 10 in Greenpoint. The food menu includes seafood dishes like a hamachi aguachile and salmon tiradito, plus a mushroom and corn quesadilla, steak tacos, and tacos placero. Expect creative original cocktails like the frozen watermelon margarita and Mero Mole with black sesame horchata. They also serve beer and non-alcoholic options.

Dolores | Bed-Stuy

Dolores, a Mexico City cocktail bar and cantina from the team behind Winona’s, opened on July 2. The bar offers inventive cocktails, botanas (or shared snacks), and tacos. Highlights of the menu include pressed seafood aguachile, chicharrones, albondigas al chipotle, and classics like enchiladas. For late-night diners, Dolores offers $2 Tacos de Canasta (“basket tacos”) from 11pm till sold out on Friday and Saturdays only.

Cheeni | Bed-Stuy

Newly opened in Bed-Stuy, Cheeni is an “Indian-ish” cafe and wine bar with a menu ranging from masala egg plates, paratha sandwiches, Maggi noodles, and chai tiramisu for dessert. It’s located in a cozy setting at 485 Tomkins Avenue, complete with a sweet back patio.

Turbo Pizza | Bushwick

Now open in Bushwick, Turbo Pizza serves thick Detroit-style pizza and wings in a casual space with a pool table. The project comes from the team behind the neighborhood bar 101 Wilson and features a chef from Roberta’s.

Panya | Industry City | Sunset Park

After closing in Manhattan in 2022, beloved Japanese bakery Panya has reopened in Industry City. The new location, attached to Japan Village, offers katsu sandwiches, mocha donuts, matcha sweets, milk bread, and pastries.

Taoxi Asian Cuisine | Coney Island

Located on the Coney Island boardwalk, this new spot blends Japanese and Asian cuisines, offering everything from sushi to General Tso’s. They also serve lunch boxes and a “Miki Lunch” of sushi rolls, and there’s even a kid’s menu.

Sal y Lima | Rockaways

Sal y Lima debuted in the Rockaways this July, serving tequila cocktails, esquites, tacos, and a signature “rock guac.” Sal y Lima is open 7 days a week all summer long.

Naya | DUMBO | Opening August 6

Naya, a Mediterranean fast-casual chain serving bowls, rolls, salads, shawarma, hummus, mezzo, and more is opening a new location on Jay Street in DUMBO.

Hōp | Industry City Pop-Up in August | Red Hook Restaurant Opening Late 2025

Two former staff members of Red Hook Tavern (and husband-and-wife team) will open a new Cambodian restaurant at 58 Van Brunt Street in late 2025. The restaurant will serve Cambodian breakfast dishes and pastries during the day, and for dinner, noodles, meats, and stews. This summer, a pop-up series at Hometown BBQ’s event space Billy’s Place at Industry City will preview their grilled beef skewers, fried noodles, and rum drinks. Folk | Park Slope | Opening Summer 2025

The team behind the Park Slope restaurant Lore is opening a new cocktail bar at 689 6th Avenue. Slated to open this summer, Folk will serve both craft cocktails and small plates. Stay tuned for more updates!

Antojitos BK | Park Slope | Opening Summer 2025

The Dominican street food spot in Sunset Park will open a new location in Park Slope this summer at Union and 4th Avenue.

Athena Keke’s | Clinton Hill | Opening Summer 2025

Opening this summer on Greene Avenue, Athena Keke’s will be a queer sports bar focused on fostering community through a shared passion for women’s sports. Founded by two industry veterans who met in 2015, the idea was sparked during the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup when they struggled to find bars showing international women’s games. As part of the NY Liberty Bar Network, Athena Keke’s will host big-screen watch parties, live game viewings, and offer Liberty-themed specials.

Sea & Soil | Boerum Hill | Opening Late Summer/Early Fall 2025

This worker-owned bakery and cafe serving homemade sandwiches is moving to a new space on Atlantic Avenue from their former location at 102 President Street. They hope to open in late summer or early fall.

Formosa Dumplings | Prospect Heights | Opening September 2025

The Taiwanese family-run dumpling spot in Bushwick will expand to a new location in Prospect Heights this September, at 43 Underhill Avenue.

Gertie | New locations in Prospect Heights & Carroll Gardens | Opening Fall 2025

Gertie, the beloved “Jew-ish” diner that closed after many years in Williamsburg, has announced that they’ve found a new home in Prospect Heights. They will open in a space near their sister restaurant Gertrude’s, at 602 Vanderbilt Avenue. They’ll be focusing on bagels, plus house-smoked fish, meats, babka, and boozy sodas.

The team behind Gertie will also open a new concept in Carroll Gardens, in the former home of Buttermilk Channel at 524 Court Street. The new spot will be called Trudie’s Tavern, and will serve steak and rotisserie chicken, chicken and waffles made with matzo, and more.

Lucky Parlor | Bed-Stuy | Opening Fall 2025

Coming this fall from the team behind Trad Room, Lucky Parlor will serve up Japanese gyoza and cocktails on Ralph Avenue. Set in the old Caroline’s Donuts storefront, the new spot will have a casual cocktail bar vibe, with snacks like Japanese pan-fried dumplings.

New Oyster Bar | Prospect Heights | Opening Late 2025

Bar Meridian closed after five years in Prospect Height, but the team behind Hart’s, the Fly, Cervo’s, and Eel Bar is taking over the space to open a dedicated oyster bar by late 2025. The new spot will be located at 406 Prospect Place.

New Restaurant by Chef Eyal Shani | Williamsburg | Opening Late 2025

The renowned Israeli Chef Eyal Shani will open a new restaurant at Williamsburg Wharf, the 3.75-acre development coming to Williamsburg’s waterfront. The restaurant will occupy 4,000 square feet on the ground floor at 470 Kent Avenue. Some of Chef Shani’s restaurants have included Port Sa’id, Michelin-starred Shmoné, HaSalon, Miznon, and the Kosher-certified restaurant Malka, with NYC locations on the Upper West Side and in DUMBO. Ramblin’ Chick | Gowanus | Opening Early 2026

The founders of Ample Hills are launching a new fast-casual concept called Ramblin’ Chick featuring a chicken-based spin on the smash burger. The menu will also feature chicken hot dogs steamed in root beer, chicken chili, cheesesteaks, sloppy joes, fries, and shakes. Though they haven’t secured a permanent location yet, they hope to open in Gowanus in early 2026.

ABC Kitchens | DUMBO | Opening date TBA

A massive new restaurant from Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten is coming to Empire Stores in DUMBO soon: the combined concept of ABC Kitchen, Latin-fusion ABC Cocina and vegetarian ABCVwill have approximately 300 seats in the old Sugarcane space that closed during the pandemic. Read more here!

Naya | DUMBO | Opening date TBA

Naya, a Mediterranean fast-casual chain serving bowls, rolls, salads, shawarma, and hummus, is opening a new location on Jay Street in DUMBO.

New Halal Restaurant | Brooklyn Heights | Opening date TBA

Fatoosh Pitza & Grill in Brooklyn Heights has closed its doors—but something new is on the way. The team behind Little Flower Cafe in Astoria and Blue Hour, the counter tucked inside a Bushwick gas station, is taking over the space at 330 Hicks Street. The new all-day restaurant will be a halal-friendly spot serving everything from burritos to pastries and coffee. Stay tuned for more details!

Aldi | Downtown Brooklyn | Opening date TBA

A new Aldi supermarket is coming to Downtown Brooklyn, on Fulton Street near Flatbush Avenue. Opening date to come!

SoBol | Downtown Brooklyn | Opening date TBA

A new location of the açaí bowl chain SoBol is coming to Downtown Brooklyn, with a space in The Pioneer Building., located at 41 Flatbush Avenue.

Brooklyn French Bakers | Downtown Brooklyn | Opening date TBA

Another new food spot will open in The Pioneer Building at 41 Flatbush Ave. Brooklyn French Bakers will serve artisanal homemade French pastries, along with coffee.

Third Time’s the Charm | Red Hook | Opening date TBA

From the team behind Bad Cholesterol, this upcoming bar and restaurant at 275 Van Brunt will feature sourdough pizza, wine by the carafe, and backyard seating.

Expansion of Red Hook Tavern | Red Hook | Opening date TBA

One of the hottest spots in Red Hook, Red Hook Tavern, is expanding to take over the adjacent Red Hook Coffee Shop, which sold coffee and also vintage furniture before its recent closure. The tavern hopes to add a cafe space and also extend hours. The expansion date has yet to be announced, but Red Hook Tavern will have to close temporarily during the process.

Expansion of Sailor | Fort Greene | Opening date TBA

Sailor has also announced plans to expand, taking over an adjacent slice shop on Dekalb Avenue. Always a tough table to get, the expansion will open up more space, or perhaps accommodate a dining room or a takeout area.

Lidl | Park Slope | Opening date TBA

Another location of the Lidl supermarket is coming to the Paseo on Fifth development in Park Slope, in the former space of a Key Foods. A CVS and Wells Fargo bank will join Lidl in this new Park Slope hub. The discount grocery store will offer fresh produce, meat, seafood, baked goods, grocery essentials, and more at low prices. Lidl also sells clothing, home appliances, kitchen equipment, and more at discounted prices.

Macario Mexican Loncheria | Park Slope | Opening date TBA

Opening soon at the corner of 4th Avenue and 11th Street, Macario will offer comforting Mexican dishes in a bright corner space. Stay tuned for an opening date!

Paulie Gee’s Slice Shop | Gowanus | Opening date TBA

The beloved Greenpoint slice shop is slated to open a new location in Gowanus. It will be located in the former home of Ample Hills at 305 Nevins Street. Stay tuned!

Mariscos El Submarino | New locations in Park Slope & Clinton Hill | Opening date TBA

This Mexican seafood joint based in Jackson Heights expanded to Greenpoint last summer, and will open additional locations in Park Slope and Clinton Hill soon. Mariscos El Submarino is best known for aguachiles and shrimp cocktails.
