NYC public school bus service averts strike

New York City public school buses will run as normal next week after all bus companies agreed to another emergency 30-day contract extension. The deal prevents disruptions for students, though the same contract issue will likely resurface again in November as over 50 school bus companies try to reach a 5-year contract extension with the city and the Department of Education.

Deadly flash floods in Brooklyn

Heavy rainfall on Thursday, October 30 brought severe flooding across Brooklyn, with more than two inches of rain falling in just a few hours. Streets turned into rivers, cars were submerged, and water poured into basements and subway stations. Two people lost their lives, including a man trapped in a flooded basement in Flatbush, as well as another victim in Manhattan.

New playspace Space Club opens in Vinegar Hill

Space Club will open its newest location in Vinegar Hill at 256 Plymouth Street on Saturday, November 1. The 28,000-square-foot indoor playspace features three-level jungle gym with slides, a bead pool filled with seven million beads, trampolines, a disco room, a bedazzling studio, and creative areas for Lego and MagnaTile building. The space is designed for children ages 0–13 and is particularly welcoming for sensory-sensitive kids. Space Club is open 365 days a year, from 8am to 7pm. This will be the playspace’s third Brooklyn location, with plans to expand into Manhattan and beyond. Get a look inside here!

Third Time’s a Charm pizzeria opened in Red Hook

Third Time’s the Charm has opened at 275 Van Brunt Street in Red Hook, serving sourdough pizza alongside cocktails, beer, and wine by the carafe. The new spot comes from self-taught chef and former lawyer Chris Milazzo, previously behind the pop-up Bad Cholesterol Bakery, and will feature multiple styles of ovens. Open daily from 4–9pm; reservations available on Resy.

Clover Hill closes it doors in Brooklyn Heights

Clover Hill, the Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant in Brooklyn Heights, has quietly closed its Columbia Place location. The acclaimed spot was originally helmed by James Beard Award winner Charlie Mitchell, who earned the title of Best Chef in New York State last year. Most recently, chef Sam Rogers had taken over the kitchen.

Halloween parades, parties, and trick-or-treating across Brooklyn

Despite strong winds, Halloween festivities were in full swing across Brooklyn, with parades in Cobble Hill, Park Slope, DUMBO, and beyond, as well as block parties, street closures for trick-or-treating, and creative costumes and decorations!
