Downtown Brooklyn launches Open Streets program on 3 streets

In response to the COVID-19 crisis, the City recently announced that 40 miles of streets Citywide will be opened to pedestrians and bicyclists to allow for greater social distancing. The following blocks are part of the Open Streets program as of Thursday 5/7:

  • Lawrence Street from Fulton Street to Willoughby Street
  • Willoughby Street from Lawrence Street to Pearl Street (Jay street remains open)
  • Pearl Street from Fulton Street to Renaissance Plaza Walkway

Current hours of operation are from 10am to 6pm, 7 days a week.

Open Streets Regulations
Pedestrians and cyclists must practice social distancing by remaining at least six feet away from others, and all must wear face masks in public. No thru-traffic is permitted and the route is limited to local deliveries, pick-ups/drop-offs, and emergency vehicles. Drivers must be vigilant of sharing the road, and may not exceed a speed of 5MPH.
