Free outdoor events and activities in June in Brooklyn

The basketball and fishing clinics for kids in Brooklyn Bridge Park return, “Make Music New York” celebrations on the longest day of the year are happening and weekly free kids activities in DUMBO’s Archway are kicking off!

Basketball clinics | Pier 2 | Tuesdays all summer long

The Conservancy’s Youth Basketball Clinics start Tuesday, June 8! In partnership with KING Hoops, NYC’s premier youth basketball organization, join them for 2-hr basketball clinics featuring drills and games. Recommended for ages 7-17. Every Tuesday from 5 to 7 pm until August 31. Register here.

DTBK Presents: Mark Morris on the Plaza | 6/11 – 6/13

Mark Morris Dance Group hosts a celebratory weekend featuring Mark Morris Dance Group’s first live performances in Brooklyn in over a year. The school’s student companies also perform and throughout the weekend, and community members can participate in free classes for all ages with and without disabilities. Friday at 6 pm, Saturday at 12 pm and Sunday at 1 pm at 300 Ashland Plaza. Find out more here.

Fishing clinic | Pier 5 | 6/12

Join the Conservancy for the first Rod & Reel fishing clinic of the season on Saturday, June 12! Fishing clinics are designed to introduce the public to the ecology and life of the East River, in order to foster conservation and environmental stewardship of our waterways. First annual Pride Atlantic Avenue | 6/13

Atlantic Avenue will be beaming with pride for the first ever “Pride on Atlantic Ave” event. The Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation, in collaboration with Brooklyn Pride, is launching this colorful celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community on Sunday, June 13, 12 to 5pm with food, drinks, shopping and music on Atlantic Avenue from 4th Avenue to the Waterfront. New dads meetup | Pier 5 | 6/13

Local new dads are invited to an informal outdoor get-together with babies 0 to 12 months on Sunday June 13 at 10 am. This event is a free, unguided gathering to connect with other new parents, meet future friends and exchange challenges, ideas and thoughts about becoming a parent. The meetup will take place near the trees at the hilly lawn right behind the public restrooms at Pier 5 in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Time Out Market x Powerhouse Arena Storytime | Time Out Market Rooftop | 6/13

Time Out Market and Powerhouse Arena have partnered up to bring a monthly free storytime to their 5th floor rooftop terrace. First one for ages 4 to 7 will take place on Sunday, June 13 at 10 am.

Celebrate Summer | Pierrepont Playground | 6/16

Join for crafts, games and snacks with your friends at the Pierrepont Playground in Brooklyn Heights. This is a free annual event celebrating the end of the school year. The event will take place on Wednesday, June 16 from 3.30 to 5 pm.

Journey to the Stars Stargazing Sessions | Pier 3 | 6/18 & 6/25

Come out and see the stars, planets, and the moon from Brooklyn Bridge Park! Gaze across the New York sky and all the wonders it holds. On select Friday nights starting in June through August, members of the Amateur Astronomers Association of New York will set up hi-powered telescopes for stargazing sessions that are free and open to the public. Weather permitting. June 18, June 25 from 8 to 10 pm at Pier 3, walk up only.

Make Music NYC on Montague Street | 6/21

Montague Street will be filled with the sounds of music with pop-up performances on sidewalks in front of small businesses starting at 12 pm on Monday June 21st between Court Street and the Promenade. The music continues at 4:30 pm with a tropical pop salsa funk sidewalk parade and a Dance Party from 5 to 8:30 pm between Hicks and Pierrepont. Montague Street between Hicks and Pierrepont will be closed to vehicle traffic on Monday, June 21 between 4:30 pm – 8:45 pm.

DTBK Presents: Willoughby Walks | 6/21

Sunbathe in lawn chairs, bask in a car-free street, and enjoy the longest day of the year! Downtown Brooklyn Partnership and DOT close down and transform the street with games, fun activities, and a musical celebration on Make Music New York day! Willoughby Street (between Jay and Pearl Sts.) and Pearl Street (between Fulton and Willoughby Sts.) on June 21 from 12 to 6 pm.
Families: come one, come all for a kid-friendly performance by renowned musician Elena Moon Park and Friends! Celebrating folk and children’s music from all over the globe, Elena + Friends will play original songs that mix musical traditions, languages, styles, and stories. The tunes range from Taiwanese train songs to Tibetan jump rope rhymes, original energetic songs and lullabies in English, and danceable tunes in Spanish. We invite families and people of all ages to join us in raising our voices together, singing in several languages, dancing, hand clapping, and joyously celebrating song, language and story. 3.30 to 5 pm.

Make Music NY | Pier 1 | 6/21

Darmstadt’s 17th Annual In C is a free, hourlong performance in which the Brooklyn ensemble brings together stars of the experimental music community for its critically-acclaimed interpretation of Terry Riley’s 1964 masterwork of minimalism. The event takes place on the Harborview Lawn at Pier 1 on June 21st from 7 to 8.15 pm.

Summer Break Community Day | Bklyn Navy Yard | 6/26

Several of the Yard’s on-site businesses and community partners will be at Building 77 giving away free items perfect for every family. Brooklyn Book Bodega will be giving away books for students in grades K – 12, Little Essentials will have diapers and baby wipes, Yadestiny Treasure Chest will bring their pop-up clothing shop of formal and casual clothes for kids up to 13, and Turnstile Tours will lead “Yard Inspectors” tours for families, and more! Family Fitness | Pier 6 | 6/27

Family Fitness at the Liberty Lawn at Pier 6 every 4th Sunday from 12 to 12.45 pm , next one 6/27. Advanced registration is required. Registration opens every Tuesday at 10 am for fitness classes the following week. Find out more here.

Outdoor storytime | Brooklyn Bridge Park | Every other Wednesday

Librarians from the Brooklyn Heights and Annex branches will be reading stories they love to share! To find out more about Summer Reading 2021 at Brooklyn Public Library click here. The only thing more fun than a good storytime is one with a view of the Brooklyn Bridge. Recommended for ages 2-7. This event takes place in-person every other Wednesday until July 28 and will switch off between the Pier 3 Greenway Terrace and John Street Lawn locations of the Park. Advance registration is required. A limited number of spaces are available.

Kids activity & DJ | DUMBO Archway | Every Thursday

The DUMBO BID is hosting free kids activities with story time, kids concerts, arts & crafts on Thursdays at 5 pm in the Archway under the Manhattan Bridge. DJ until 8 pm. All summer long until the end of August – rain or shine.

Outdoor concert with the Brownstone Baritone |Brooklyn Heights | weekly
