The Department of Education has published new grading policies for the rest of the school year during remote learning. Teachers will base students’ final grades on a holistic review of their progress before and after they started remote learning. Attendance will not be a factor in students’ grades. No student will receive a failing final grade. The DOE is continuing to develop plans for programming and supports over the summer months. More information about summer school will be made available in the upcoming weeks. Students in Kindergarten and up will receive final grades of either “Meets Standards” (MT) or “Needs Improvement” (N).

The opening of Governors Island as of May 1st has been postponed indefinitely. The island management is working on plans how to reopen with safety standards in place during COVID-19. Stay tuned!
New York City will close 40 miles (64 kilometers) of streets to cars in May to provide more opportunity for recreation and expand space for pedestrians to keep social distance mainly near parks. This may include using barricades to temporarily expand sidewalks, more bike lanes and possibly closing streets near Brooklyn Bridge Park in DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights all together for better social distancing. City officials are also working on a more comprehensive plan with 100 miles closed for summer’s warmest months to relieve crowding in already packed parks.
