Our overview features classes and learning pods for children 8 months to 6th Grade in Prospect Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Fort Greene Park and other locations.

Aegir skating lessons | Downtown Brooklyn

Program: Aegir Boardworks After School Skate Lessons. Our small group lessons are held daily in Brooklyn, offering instruction from local skaters that are passionate about teaching kids and adults. We offer beginner and intermediate lessons for those absolutely new to skateboarding or for experienced riders looking to improve their style or learn new things. Classes are kept intimate with small groups of 1 to 4 students per instructor with private lesson options available as well. Our classes are also a la carte – you can purchase as many or as few classes as desired.

Ages: 5 years and up

Dates: After School Lessons begin September 13th, 2021. We offer 3:30 to 6:30 classes Monday through Friday as well as private and group Weekend Lessons from 9am to 12pm.

Cost: $40 an hour per student for group lessons. $95 for one hour private lessons for up to two students. Private lessons are exclusively taught one or two students per instructor.

Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy Soccer League | Pier 5

Program: The sign-up for the Brooklyn Bridge Park Youth Soccer League for 1st through 6th graders is now open for the fall 2021 season. Youth Soccer at Pier 5 will run Saturdays from September 11 to November 13, 2021 (pending any weather-related cancellations). Weekly practices will take place on Wednesdays from 4 to 7 PM, with games being played on Saturdays from 8 AM to 12 PM. All players, staff and parents/guardians will have to wear face coverings at all times. Each season runs for 10 weeks and the cost for the full season is $100.

Ages: 1st to 6h grades

Dates: Starts Saturday, September 11 and runs for ten weeks

Brooklyn Dance Conservatory | Prospect Park & Carroll Park

Program Brooklyn Dance Conservatory currently offers socially distanced, drop-in dance classes in Carroll Park and Prospect Park for ages 1.5-6. Classes are always engaging, and use children’s inherent creativity to keep them having fun, while moving and learning. Classes include a variety of dance styles including ballet, modern, jazz, and hip hop. Our outdoor classes provide kids with an imaginative, fun experience, all while learning real dance terminology. Ms. Allegra’s students love meeting new friends and showing off their constantly growing dance vocabulary.

Location: Prospect Park and Carroll Park

Ages: 1.5-6 years

Dates: Fall classes begin mid-September and run weekday mornings and afternoons. The days and times of classes vary from week to week to adjust for weather. Each week’s schedule is sent out to the email list on Sundays. If you can make it that week, just follow the email instructions to sign up. Brooklyn Forest | Prospect Park

Program: Brooklyn Forest offers classes in city parks for young children and their caregivers. We want your child’s first class to be filled with wonder. And we believe a wonderful childhood starts with imaginative play and a supportive community; with a meaningful connection to nature and wildlife; with vigorous physical work and nourishing food; with simple rhythms and constant singing; with feeling at home in the forest.

Ages: 12 months to 4 years old

Program: In Collective Kind outdoor adult-child classes we will sing, play, move and read alongside our caregivers as we learn with Montessori-inspired, open-ended materials that can easily be recreated. We will spark ideas for learning through play at home with repurposed materials and most importantly, engage with the natural world. We are a warm, welcoming community that places family relationships at the center. We trust the competence, sensitivity and determination of young children and believe that children construct knowledge through physical and social interactions.

Boatbuilding, toy building, inventor labs and much more creative fun in these drawing, engineering and building workshops this Fall in Prospect Park, Fort Greene Park and other locations. Program: Little Creatives Art & MovementBK is an in-person outdoor art class that was created out of love, and built around fun. Our goal is to empower your little artists to become fearless …to push through “mistakes” and to discover their personal form of expression while encouraging children’s independent spirit.

Naomi’s Music | Cadman Plaza

Program details:  Naomi’s Music is offering 10-week outdoor sessions for both Canta y Baila Conmigo (CyBC) with Gisela and Music Together with Naomi. Both programs are evidence and research based to best support your child organically through their primary music development, and in the case of Canta, also to introduce Spanish language and rich, culturally authentic Latin music.  Learning happens naturally through family play in community.  Everything we do is designed to allow for continued music making and exploration beyond our once per week exposure.  The music goes home with you, and we show you ways to engage with the material that will keep the joy going and going!

Ages: Mixed Ages 0-5 together with the grown-ups and older children who love them.  No sibling charge. Multiple adults welcome.  (Music Together BABIES ONLY is restricted to adults with infants 0-8 months) 

Dates/times: Canta y Baila Conmigo kicks off Sept 9th on Thursdays at various times (a minimum of 4 families per class is necessary for them to run) Music Together begins on October 3rd with a Preview Class on Sunday, September 19th at 10am.  MT is scheduled to run on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Check the website for times. In case of inclement weather, we will find a clear alternative day the same week.  All registered families will have access to a pre-recorded video of the class in case they cannot attend a makeup class.

Costs: $325 includes 10 classes and all materials, printed and digital as well as a library of videos of the lessons.  Sundays will run 9 weeks and cost $300.  2 drop-in maximum at $30 each.

Location: Cadman Plaza Park. Please bring ground cover (waterproof if possible) as well as play along instruments for each member of your group, real or improvised.

Program: Outdoor Music Together (0-5 years) classes limited to 8 families. Your child will sing, dance, and learn to sing in tune and move to the beat through age-appropriate musical activities and instruments. In case of bad weather, classes will be on Zoom. Program: Join us for singing, dancing, imagining and more! Our enthusiastic, engaging teaching artists will guide the group through some warm-ups, accompanied on live ukulele or guitar. Program: Dive under the sea with us as we swim with our favorite ocean creatures and sea-faring friends– sing and dance like Ariel, sparkle with Rainbow Fish, explore the ocean with Moana, and more! We’ll dance like mermaids, “arrggg” like pirates, and act out some swimmingly splendid under the sea stories!

A weekly After School Camp where students will explore the semester’s theme with movement games, collaborative activities, dancing, craft projects, storytelling & more!

AFTERSCHOOL OUTDOOR CLASSES: 

Program: Act, Move, Create, and Play… Where will your imagination take you today? In this class, children will go on a dramatic adventure that begins with the opening of the treasure trunk. The props and costumes inside the trunk provide the spark that inspires a story that we will create using our voices, bodies, and imaginations. Children will learn how to work together as an ensemble and explore the art of improvisation. This class provides a great way for children to begin incorporating dramatic arts into storytelling. Every class is a new adventure!
