Open houses at public elementary schools

If your child enters Pre-K or Kindergarten in September 2023, you can attend in-person (and virtual) open houses at local zoned and un-zoned public schools over the next weeks and months. Families with children born in 2018 can apply to Kindergarten for the 2022-23 school year soon. The kindergarten application will open from December 7, 2022 – January 20, 2023. All families who apply by the deadline will receive a kindergarten offer in April. The pre-K application will open in late January 2023. The 3-K application will also open in late January 2023. Zoned schools

PS 8 / Brooklyn Heights:  Takes in and out-of-zone students. The Open House will take place on December 9, 2022 at 9 am. Find out more here.

PS 307 / Vinegar Hill: Magnet school for STEAM studies takes out of zone students. Find out more here. Stay tuned for dates.

PS 11 / Clinton Hill: Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students in the past but less and less in past years. RSVP for open houses 12/15/22, 1/19/23 and 2/16/23 at 9 am here.

PS 20 / Fort Greene: Zoned school, also runs a French Dual Language Program. In-person school tours will take place 12/7/22 and and 1/18/23 at 9 am, RSVP here.

PS 9 / Prospect Heights: Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students into their general education and Spanish dual language programs. Open house on December 8, 2022 at 9.30 am in person and December 15 at 6.30 pm virtually. Please sign up here.

PS 29 / Cobble Hill: Zoned school with new admissions policy to take on 30% of students who live in poverty, NYCHA housing and who are English Language Learners from outside the zone. School tours: December 8th, 2022 (in-person), December 14th, 2022 (in-person), and January 10th, 2023 (virtual), all beginning at 9:00 am. RSVP here.

PS 32 / Carroll Gardens: Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students in the past. The school is setting aside 30% of seats for students who live in poverty, NYCHA housing and who are English Language Learners from outside the zone. Virtual open houses are coming up on December 7 and December 14 at 9.30 am, register here.

PS 58 / Carroll Gardens: Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students in the past. The school is setting aside 30% of seats for students who live in poverty, NYCHA housing and who are English Language Learners from outside the zone. The school runs a French dual language program in addition to general education classrooms. Upcoming open houses on Thursday, December 15th, 9:15 AM and Friday, January 6th, 9:15 AM. RSVP here.

PS 261 / Boerum Hill: Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students in the past but less and less in past years. The school is setting aside 30% of seats for students who live in poverty, NYCHA housing and who are English Language Learners from outside the zone. School Tour on December 13, 2022 at 9 am. PS 38 / Downtown Brooklyn: Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students in the past. The school is setting aside 30% of seats for students who live in poverty, NYCHA housing and who are English Language Learners from outside the zone. In-person tours will be held on: Friday, December 9 at 9am & 10am and Friday, January 13 at 9am & 10am. RSVP here.

PS 15 / Red Hook: Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students in the past. Also runs Spanish dual language program. Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students in the past. PS 46 / Fort Greene: Zoned school offering 3K to 5th Grade, has been taking out-of-zone students in the past. Also runs Spanish dual language program. Open houses on December 9 and December 20 at 8.30 am. No need to RSVP, just show up. Find out more here.

Unzoned “Choice” Schools

PS 133 / Gowanus: Un-zoned school that runs French and Spanish dual language programs as well as general education classes, draws by lottery from District 13 and 15. School tours will take place on December 8th, December 15th, January 12th , January 19th and February 9th at 9 am. Dual Language Program (DLP) information session is on January 26th 2023. Brooklyn New School / Carroll Gardens: Un-zoned school, draws by lottery from District 13, 14, 15 and 16. In Person: No sign up necessary. More information here. Thursday, December 8: 9:00-10:30am, in the Auditorium and Thursday, January 12: 9:00-10:30am, in the Auditorium. Virtual: Thursday, January 5: 5:30-6:30pm. PS 372 The Children’s School / Carroll Gardens: Un-zoned school, draws by lottery from District 15 and sets aside seats for students with special needs (IEP). Open houses on 12/5, 12/6 and 12/7. RSVP here.

Arts & Letters 305 United / Bed Stuy: Un-zoned school, draws by lottery from District 13. Stay tuned for dates.
