Free kid-friendly events in June in our neighborhood

A pop-up science encounter is coming to DUMBO, summer reading storytime is kicking off at Pier 3, a new circus studio is throwing a free opening party in Gowanus and The Metropolitan Opera Summer Recital Series will take place at Pier 1 in June. All details and more free kid-friendly events here:

Pop-up science encounter | DUMBO | Starting 6/1

A research vessel that drills into the ocean floor to collect and study core samples will be bringing In Search of Earth’s Secrets: A Pop-Up Science Encounter to Brooklyn Bridge Park, where visitors can learn about the Earth’s core through interactive and immersive activities. Thursdays to Sundays, June 1 – June 17 from 1 to 5 pm at the 99 Plymouth Street building in DUMBO that also hosts the Education Center.

Free outdoor movies @ Albee Square | Downtown Brooklyn | Thursdays in June

Free movies at Albee Square, Thursday nights in June starting June 7th. Seating opens at 6.30 pm with music at 7 pm and screenings at 8 pm. Movie line-up including Men in Black here.

Free dance performances | Borough Hall | 6/7

The launch of New York City Dance Week will take place in front of Brooklyn Borough Hall with an array of dance performances on Thursday June 7th starting at 5 pm. Come join the fun and learn how to dance many types of genres including hip hop, modern, and tap, as well as participate in group fitness exercises.

Treasure Trunk opening party | Brooklyn Heights | 6/9

Treasure Trunk theater is opening a new 700 square feet studio for kids classes and summer programs. Come meet their teaching artists, design your own superhero mask or royal crown, play some imaginative theatre games, and learn about their programming and birthday parties. Saturday June 9th from 11am-3pm at 141 Atlantic Avenue.

Kids cookbook launch @ Books are Magic | Cobble Hill | 6/9

New Favorites for New Cooks is a cookbook for kids that is in sync with the way we cook and eat now. Food educator Carolyn Federman introduces the concepts of seasonal, organic, and local through delicious and easy recipes that kids can tackle on their own. With fresh ingredients and easy recipes, kids will learn to cook dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as snacks, drinks, and desserts. Free event at Books are Magic at 225 Smith Street on June 9th from 1 to 2 pm.

The Muse Circus opening party | Gowanus | 6/10

Circus and fitness company The Muse is opening a new circus studio in Gowanus offering a variety of classes and family-friendly programming for children and adults alike. On Sunday, June 10, The Muse Gowanus invites the community to the Grand Opening and Show. From 11:30am to 4.15 pm, guests can visit the new space and participate in sampler classes. The new space is located at 303 3rd Street.

Father’s Day cards | Borough Hall Farmer’s Market | 6/16

Stop by the Market Information tent at the Greenmarket at Borough Hall to make a colorful card for Father’s Day using fruit and veggie stamps! Afterwards, don’t forget to shop for all of the ingredients to make dad a delicious Father’s Day brunch or dinner. Free event will take place on Saturday, June 16th from 11am-1pm.

Summer Reading Storytime | Pier 3 | Wednesdays starting 6/13

Join The Brooklyn Public Library for a rollicking good time listening to stories, singing songs, and enjoying the breeze from the water! Wednesdays at 10:30 am, June 13 to August 8 at Pier 3.

The Metropolitan Opera Summer Recital Series | Pier 1 | 6/13

The Met Opera’s Summer Recital Series returns to Pier 1 for an evening of beautiful arias and duets from a variety of operas on Wednesday 6/13 from 7 to 9 pm.

Live Under The Archway | DUMBO | Thursdays starting 6/14

Fifteen Weeks of free concerts and events held on Thursdays at 6pm under the Manhattan Bridge Archway in DUMBO starting on  June 14th. Kids can run around while parents have a glass of wine listing to live music.

Annual School’s Out Party | Brooklyn Heights | 6/20

The annual school’s out party with crafts, games, and snacks will take place at Pierrepont Playground on Wednesday, June 20th from 3.30 – 5 pm.

Free drop-in play @ Elite Minds Montessori | Carroll Gardens | Sundays in June

Free drop-in play at Elite Minds Montessori Preschool and Summer Camp every Sunday from 9 to 11 am in June. Experience your child interact with a Montessori environment in their brand new school.
