Two new interactive art exhibitions coming to our neighborhood

On May 1, Public Art Fund will present Subliminal Standard, a new commission by Brooklyn-based, Belgian-born artist Harold Ancart inspired by New York City’s ubiquitous handball courts, which have fascinated the artist for years. For this exhibition, Ancart will construct a large-scale, playable painted concrete handball court in Cadman Plaza Park. The exhibition will be on view May 1, 2019 to March 30th, 2020.

On February 20, Public Art Fund will unveil Bridge Over Tree, the first re-staging of the Iranian-born, Minneapolis-based artist Siah Armajani’s seminal installation in nearly 50 years, on the Empire Fulton Ferry Lawn at Brooklyn Bridge Park between the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges. The work consists of a 91-foot-long walkway with open, trussed sides and a shingled roof, with a set of stairs at the midpoint that climb and descend over a small evergreen tree which you everybody can walk on to and around. The exhibition will be on view February 20, 2019 to September 29th, 2020.
